Hey all, I've been seeing some epic stuff being built in the community showroom, and I would like to contribute. I have no experience at all in car building, so if you have any advice, please be specific. Please only reply to this thread if you have something to contribute to the subject at hand as well as having experience in building cars. All advice is appreciated.

Here is what I would like to know:

    What software should I use?
Where do I start? (shell, parts, flexbody...)
How do I make individual parts? (bumper, hood, doors...)
How do I input engine power? (acceleration, top speed...)

On another note, this is the car that I plan to make:

    -EDIT-

I just saw another thread that partially covers this, but I am hoping to go into more detail in this thread so that any new content makers can refer to it.

At this point the only thing you can work on is making the mesh for it using a 3D modelling program like 3ds Max or Blender. As for the actual node beam file you'll have to be patient.

Ok, I don't model but I think you should use blender or 3Ds max. You might want to ask a modeler in ROR for help. Also, the truck file for beamng is top secret, so try ROR's.

Don't you think that I would have done that before making a thread?

If you're going to try and use software like Blender, I recommend watching ALL of cgboorman's tutorials, they're all very helpful in getting to know the program and the UI and are aimed towards real novices. You can skip some of the animation related tutorials as they're not really relevant to modelling. Also there are some decent tutorials on Youtube as to how to set up blueprints in Blender and start modelling a car, I wouldn't recommend this until much later though..

If the car model is NOT from a copyrighted game then YES!

Right now all you can do is make the models of the car, which really isn't making a car for Beam but just modelling.
As for using other models, the above explains it.

You cant entirely convert car models into Beam because you also need to make the Nodes and beams for it, and all the physics, flexbodies, etc.

If you don't know how to model, I suggest using blender, it's free, and just look for some tutorials on "how to model in blender". Good luck.
