I'm finding different terrain very nice in BeamNG.Drive, but deep sand is something that is not behaving quite to what one would except. When tires are sunken such deep in sand, I kinda feel that this combination should not really go anywhere, rolling resistance, drag from deformed ground I would except to be greater than available grip as sand just moves around driven wheels and tires. However it seems to move quite lightly and rolls quite easily, it is almost same as I would drive on grass: What I would except would be that even if combination would have 20kph of speed, it would stop in 2 meters or so even throttle floored. So this gives me impression that there might be something that could be improved here, not sure if it would be just simple increase of rolling resistance with sunken depth or something? This 'slippery sand' might have other implications too, for example sand traps of race track might provide faster stopping, those too I find being bit slippery and easy to get out of. I'm not sure if it is just balancing thing or adjustment of model, both might be areas of WIP still, but that might be something worht to look at as it is quite way off compared to what one would except IRL.
I agree, sand doesn't quite behave like sand, and it's way to easy to get out of. I've seen a car get pretty well stuck in some loose dirt, (it was a FWD sedan loaded with luggage, which probably didnt help). In beamNG, I've only actually gotten trapped in sand once, in a base model Miramar.
Track variants get stuck on Hirochi racetrack quite easily, I think that as with those bottom gets tires to 'float' such happens then. Maybe on beach case tires reach 'bottom of sand pool and they act like on hard ground then, that would mean that sinking process would be one that would need attention instead of simple tuning of properties, but even still resistance would need to be higher, even if tires would 'float' bit better, then you would better get digged in. There is a thing that tire slippage is high even with rear wheels on sand with FWD, so some tweaking is needed or then there could be even a bug as for example mud was improved a lot some time ago and there was new kind of model introduced for sinking of tires etc. They have long ToDo list and this might be in there somewhere already
