I recorded (Alt + R) video of my driving in the game. Default map, default vehicle, and saved it. I believe it was v.0.17.

I come back in v.0.19 and try to play back the same video, and the vehicle spikes (like a giant prehistoric porcupine driving down the road), and makes funny skidding sounds. Note the default map (East Coast, USA) and vehicle (one of the Gavril T-series big rigs, with dry trailer) remains the same in the game. Just the version I'm playing back the video is different than the one I recorded it in.

    Should that make a difference?
If so, I think that's troubling. The whole point of making a recording is being able to go back to it anytime I want, to screen record, catch it from a different camera angle, etc. etc.

If each major version update (not a sub-version hotfix), ruins the videos I recorded in the previous version, then what's the frickin' point of making videos in the first place?

If I take out all those video files, store them somewhere else in my hard drive while I update BeamNG, does that make a difference (i.e. -- corrupt them)?
If so, okay then I guess that makes sense. But had I not moved them out of the way ahead of time, wouldn't BeamNG have deleted/destroyed them upon the update to the next version-- had I not safely moved them out of the BeamNG folder?

I guess what I'm asking is, am I damned if I do, damned if I don't?

Finally, I understand that recording mod cars in mod or default maps, and then removing/deactivating the mod car, and trying to play back the video; results in a spiked default vehicle (porcupine effect) driving down the road. That's not the issue at hand-- just wanted to clarify that point.

    Thanks.

Those are not videos by the way. Those are replay files that contains data that can be played back in-game.

So you can actually record a video using different camera angles. They are not meant to be stored through versions, as it won't work:
Replays are susceptible to vehicle changes. If you record using a game version, and then play it back in another, where that vehicle got changes of any kind, the replay data won't be in sync anymore, causing problems.

Yes, right... replay files. That's what I meant. I can only play those back within the game. I realize that.

Okay Nadeox1, thanks for clarifying that very point, because that's what I feared. I have a tendency to recording (Alt +R) within the game, something I like, save it, and intend to get back to it later with a screen/game recorder, to edit and upload to YouTube much later-- as I'm behind on all my YouTube projects by a good 3 to 5 years now.

So if I understand you right, best to screen record those replay files sooner than later, as the game has a major update at least twice a year on average?
Okay, sounds as if I just have to learn to move a little faster, if I want my projects to see the light of day.

    Thank you for your input.
