I'm downloading a map asset from the repo. According to this speed tester online, it says my internet provider can pull DL's at a rate of 60-something Mb/sec.

Then why is it only pulling in the low 100 kb/sec range, out of the repository? I've never actually seen it run this slow, and 170 mb for a map/level, is actually on the small side compared to a lot of others. It just shouldn't be taking this long.

    What is up?
    1. Are internet speed testers not as reliable as they claim to be?

    2. Or are they representative of what my internet is capable of running under best circumstances, and not a real time display of what's actually happening, if there's lots of internet traffic (either on my end, or BeamNG's end)?

I don't know much about that sort of stuff, so that's why I ask.
Thank you for your input on the matter.

It's mostly the user's wi-fi as most problems like this are local

Ok, so what you’re saying is...

    1. The internet speed test doesn’t always mean I’ll get those numbers?

    2. It measures download speed at the internet provider's head-end, but has no way of knowing local speeds at the customer level, because it knows nothing of traffic in my local area?

Well, I guess that makes sense. Unfortunate reality, but makes sense.

Internet speed tests can be reliable, depending on which one you use.
It can also depend a lot on where the server is. But to answer your question, they are supposed to show your real-time internet speed.
    Try something like fast.com.

I just tested by downloading a random map, and I got around 7 mbps.
Also you have to take into consideration that BeamNG's servers are hosted in Germany. If you're from the US, you'll have slower download times than somebody physically closer to the servers.

You're probably right. I didn't even take proximity of the server into account. I live in California some 9 time zones away from Germany. That may explain a lot. Thank you for your input. I learn a little bit more everyday.
