So, when I go into the System menu my computer says 64 bit operating system. But when I go into the disk drive, it says ProgramFiles(x86). I think x86 is for 32 bit OS, and x64 is for 64 bit OS. Can someone tell me why this is? I would really like to know.
Yes, you do have 64 bits. Simply put, not all programs are 64 bit. So whichever apps are 32 bit only go into the x86 folder, and the 64 bit apps go into the standard program files folder.
Every 64-bit PC is like this. The "Program Files" folder is for 64-bit programs, whereas the Program Files (x86) folder is for 32-bit programs, as you thought. 64-bit and 32-bit programs both work on a 64-bit OS.
