The term itself originates from the aircraft Spifire but many aircraft during the 2nd world war had a similar thing going on, the exhaust pipes were not only singing but spitting out fire. This was the early supercharged engine models and after the war they were dropped in cars like hot rods mainly, race cars, some super cars, etc. I'd love to see the fire comming out of the exhausts where applicable.
