Ha, I've got one (short) story. As a child, my dad owned a black Buick Skylark (Early 70s if I remember correctly) and a red (black landau roof?) Chevy Chevelle Malibu (also early 70s). I used to get taken to school and any event that we'd have to drive to in the Chevelle (which was something I absolutely loved). So, what about the Buick? Well... on the only drive I rode in that thing, we drove ONE OR TEO BLOCKS away from my house, and it broke down. I remember saying 'I love this car' while we were driving and then saying 'this car is terrible' when it broke down. Morale of the story? Chevelle good, Skylark... not so much. In all seriousness, I loved both of those cars, and was sad when we sold them a while back.
I still remember when I was 6,in 2012,my parent wanted to get a new car in order to replace their old 2003 Geely Haoqing(totally shitbox but at least it could be a shelter from the wind and the rain when you are outside). Then they started searching online about informations of cars and at last, they took them into consideration: Chevy Cruze Chevy Epica(Daewoo Tosca in South Korea) Peugeot 408 Nissan Bluebird Sylphy They finally chose the 408.By the time my father drove the car back from the dealer,me and my mother were doing our grocery shopping.I went out of the store and saw the new car,an amber gold 2012 Peugeot 408 parked in front of me. I forget the next part.I can only remember my joy of seeing the new car. My family got another Peugeot in 2016,a used black 2009 Peugeot 307 from my uncle because my mother need a car to go to her workplace. This car has also became my mother's daily driver. She also sent and picked me up from school by that car. Like this,I spend 9 years in my life together with Peugeot. In 2021,after my graduation from middle school,my parent replaced the 307 with a brand-new black 2021 Buick LaCrosse. Well,I love both of 2 Peugeots, though we always think that Peugeot made horrible cars in 2000s(TopGear moment). The 408 is still being driven by my father now and my mother drives that LaCrosse. The LaCrosse is one of the most American-style things you could buy nowaday on Chinese car market.Well it's quiet and smooth, feels like a qualified fullsize luxury car.Love it.
Tha's pretty damn awesome, I've always loved the feeling of getting home and boom, new car! Great story! Also, I thought Buicks were only sold in the US and other western countries. You actually don't see many over here, so I was wondering how the company supported itself.
Buick sold 1.06 million cars globally and 78.2% were sold in China. You can see their cars here frequently.Buicks in Chinese road's traffic are mainly Regals,GL8s(GL8 is a minivan specially for China.Mainly for bussiness purpose),Envisions and Excelles(Excelle is a compact car based on GM J200 platform special for China. It was a rebranded version of Lacetti for gen1 while the gen2 is a Chinese-market-only car). I already heard that Buicks are almost vanish on American road. Most of their purchase order were come from car rental companies.
Wow, I didn't know that! Buick isn't a mainly american company anymore. Explains why their commercials slowly disappeared over here.
As an Americalandian, I can confirm we drive nothing but Ford, Chevy, and Dodge trucks. Especially Ford trucks. So many Ford trucks.
Someone called Cossieman2000 once said, "If you park all the ford pickup trucks ever made side by side, it would go around the world twice." Have ford actually sold that much trucks? I don't really get the appeal of trucks, I get the appeal of having a Toyota Yaris GR.
Well, see, a Toyota Yaris GR isn't very freedom eagle rifle McDonalds. You can't go huntin', do fishin', or constructionin' with a GR Yaris. You cann do all of that with a big ol' murica truck. Also, remember, a lot of these are work trucks and used by people who have jobs relating to work.
i almost crashed a 4th gen Kia Carens into a tree --- Post updated --- i am most definitely the reason the first thing my dad did with our (not so new now) car was checking if the E-Brake can be pulled when the car is moving
Back when i was about 6 or 7, my pop who occasionally took care of me while my parents weren't there, would take me out to maccas in one of the cars he had in the front shed (he once had about seven cars of which he rotated their use). One time we went out in the torana (that old brown car i used to talk about), now he never really believed in maintenance or fixing things nor paying for quality parts if you didn't use a car very much and he couldn't tune a carburettor for the life of him (he thinks that the idle mix screws is the all and only "tuning" on a carb). The car was only used about once a year so to him he didn't need to work on it at all. Still thinks like that to this day, even after having that shit heap stall right on the fucking railway after waiting for a while for the train to pass. Damn thing wouldn't start, then the boom gates came down again for an oncoming train, so what does he do ? "Stay in the car i have to push it". Well short story shorter he pushed the car off. Turns out that cheap years old no brand battery couldn't provide enough power for a spark, that fuel filter that "looks fine, its only used once a year!" wouldn't flow fuel, the spark plugs were completely fouled and did i mention he didn't understand what carburettor tuning was, which caused it stall in the first place... Moral of the story: all machinery requires maintenance no matter its usage, and dont tell your fucking grandchild to stay in the car when a train is coming along to hit the fucking thing. You know that torana has left me stranded with it breaking down countless times because of this mans inability to perform even basic maintenance in the past suddenly catching up with the present, and the valiant is yet to let me down despite it being ten years older, left in a paddock for 15 or so years, and being wrenched apon by the two previous mechanical incompetents. The engine failure i put down to years and years of cheap second hand miscellaneous oils being used without ever being changed and me only doing one oil change when really i should have done a couple before jamming down the highway. Oh well you live you learn, except for my pop...
'Stay in the car while I push it off the tracks'? I mean, by logic, it would've been better for you to get out (the car would be lighter). I guess you don't think about that when you're stuck on the tracks while a massive metal machine hurtles towards you at over 60 mph. He really didn't need to own a car, he needed one of those 4-seater pedal bikes. Could be used once a year without issue, won't stall on train tracks. May be a little slow though... Great story!
I'll change this thread's name to " || Storytime ||" so it has more freedom and not just confined to childhood stories.
Well being at that age you wouldn't know to just get out of the car regardless of what some one says, after all a train may very hit the thing in a minute
