strange brake/acceleration re-calibration on car reset

    I'm using an old microsoft force feedback wheel (not sure the model, but really old, like, early 2000s probably). When I reset the car, it seems as if the accelerator is re-calibrated to be fully depressed. So, I find that I sometimes have to hold the brake pedal down when I hit the "r" key in order to get the car to respawn with centered pedal settings. Is this just me?
