Hi there, my very first post! I've been playing the full version for about a week now and I've got an idea for the doors that's somewhat stolen from Grand Theft Auto. On some collisions the impact will cause car doors to open. My suggestion is that with enough momentum the force of a door closing should cause it to shut rather than bouncing away again; and maybe with enough force the lock could break making the door unshuttable. Thanks for reading! Ste
Hey this game just so you know is an alpha. This is not a game yet. They are making a huge update so door locks is not a good idea. But why would you need door locks anyways? Its beamng. No body is gonna steal it. But I do admit, If Rock Star and beamng teamed up, It would be epic
I don't think that works in real life as it does in GTA. The "enough force" part you mentioned is exactly what happens in game... and they are unshuttable. Did you read the post? There's nothing about implementing actual door locks in the post.
I was annoyed by the proclivity of doors flying open so easily so I scale up door latch and hinge beam deform values to 200+K. Now they stay closed until a really, really really violent crash. I'm happy with it and I can save those values as a separate vehicle so I don't have to do it all over every time I play. I understand what OP is saying but in reality a door latch that comes loose from a collision likely is busted for good no matter how hard or soft a collision is. Just my two cents.
You make a good point sir. And you produce a good argument for it. People should stop learning their physics from video games. (i say that ironically, learning orbital mechanics from KSP) And proclivity, that is a good word. Im just astounded when i find an intelligent person on the internet Congrats on your 100th post.
Some kind of latch beam would be useful so doors, hoods and such could be opened without breaking the latch. I've tried soft hydros to open the hood, but then it bounces open over bumps. Stiff hydros would keep it shut, but it looks otherwise unnatural. Bounded or anisotropic beam type for hydros could help, but that doesn't seem to work. That's why they have this "Ideas and Suggestions" subforum.
Difference there is that KSP's orbital mechanics are rather accurate. The only real cockups there are simply matters of scale, kerbin is smaller than our real moon yet has earth gravity, power to weight ratios of the parts are real world values and the drag model needs improving (not that drag applies in orbit, if you have drag in orbit you have a problem ). You can genuinely learn from it.
Well almost, but not quite. In real life SOI's overlap, unlike the ones in KSP which are separated. Other than that, scale and spacecraft components, which are also simplified.
Yes this is true, home computers dont have the muscle for true n-body physics though. Although I always thought you could perhaps get a good approximation if the nearest 1 or 2 SOI's within your current SOI were calculated and for the moons the parent SOI too. I assume SQUAD considered that and obviously opted against it.
Have you ever played orbiter? It's got pretty realistic physics, although it lacks the engineering aspect that KSP has.
I would say the hinges should be a bit stronger as in most car crashes out don't see doors hanging open. They couldn't close again though because if it did enough damage to force it open the door/ frame would probably be too deformed to fit back into place, just my 2 cents.
Or ya know, could do like they do on derby cars and add some derby modifications as a parts options to cars... Welding them shut and the like.
you have 198 posts, and every single one of them mentions derbies in some way. There is something wrong with you
We have 107k posts on this forum and every single one of them was made in front of a screen. There's something wrong with all of us.
Every one of my posts contains some level of stupidity and there is probably a lot that is wrong with me. Sent from my stone tabluh-+ using Taoablehbebuhluh.
Exactly what the hell is wrong with someone mentioning derbies in every single post?...are we all not family here?
whoever that was up there ^^^ that said they adjusted the beamstrength of the latch and locks on doors, where/how you do dat? need nau!! need the covet doors to stay shut after more than a simple tap into a wall. (at 18 mph, the doors both popped open several times, and its kind of un realistic).
