Supercharger Types

    Ok i seen that there is centrifugal and roots as types of superchargers in game... are there any more types that will work?... I may need a dev on this as they know all the types that are in-game.

    i know centrifugal is a Dynamic compressor and Roots is Positive Displacement so.....

    Can other Dynamic compressors and Positive Displacement Types work? or are we limited to just roots/centrifugal?

    Well... I hate to break it to you... or maybe this is a good thing, I am not sure how you will take it... but the game doesn't physically simulate the difference between supercharger types. If I am not mistaken (which I very well may be) the only difference is their efficiency. So while a 3 lobe roots supercharger may only have an efficiency of 55%, a centrifugal may have 69%, and a comprex may have 84%. To the best of my knowledge this is how superchargers are handled by the engine simulation at the moment.

    Well the boost works differently. Centrifugal superchargers in BeamNG will produce boost in a non-linear way (The amount of airflow a centrifugal delivers (literally blows) increases roughly at a square of its driven speed. It is NOT linear. So say at 3k rpm it delivers 'X' airflow. At 6k it now delivers roughly X^2 airflow.). However, positive displacement superchagers produce boost in direct proportion to RPM, so if at 3k RPM it produces "X" airflow, at 6k RPM it will produce "2X" airflow.
    This means positive displacement superchargers are much more efficient for low end torque (and consistent power across the whole RPM range), whereas centrifugals give better high RPM power.

    While all that is perfectly correct... does BeamNG actually simulate it that way (being able to differentiate between the two that is)? If it does I was unaware that the supercharger simulation was that advanced already.

    Edit: Got ninjaed by SixSixSevenSeven... and as you mentioned the twin screw I am going to guess the answer to my question is yes.

    Effectively the only real difference between Twin Screw and Roots type superchargers is efficiency. Twin Screw superchargers are more efficient (less power required to produce boost, higher pressure output, less heat/friction, and lower temperature air output), all that really takes is a few simple parameters in the code :)

    Right, I guess I was more curious about how it handles the difference between centrifugal and roots/screw superchargers.
