Textures look great up close, but not good from a distance

I have been noticing that some of my textures like the ones in the pictures below don't look too good from a distance. They look good close up but when you back away from them they quickly start to look grainy and like in the picture below the black lines on the tile start to flicker and disappear when the camera is only like 10 feet away. I know that when you get far away from textures you should start to see less detail just like in real life, but the way the lines disappear and flicker from only a little ways back doesn't seem right. The textures were applied in Sketchup and there is no normal or detail map on these textures. Is there any thing I can do to improve the detail of the textures from farther away without having to retexture the model? If there is no other way to improve the appearance of the texture without retexturing the model, what is the simplest way to do so? Also what is the easiest way to add a detail and normal map to a texture?

Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated ;)

    Thanks :D

Turn up your anti-aliasing and antisotropic filtering and see if it makes a difference.

I tried turning up my Anti-aliasing and Anisotropic filter, and It had no affect on the aperience of the textures. Also If I raise the Anisotropic filter any higher than 4X the game crashes.

this can't be fixed easily. its just that the line on the texture is so small that is isnt big enough to use 1 pixel on you monitor so it doesnt appear.

had the same problem... try 600 x 600 sized texures, everything above turns out like u said "grainy" from distance. i use even smaller ones, as long as theyre tileable they still look great.

You need to make sure you enable mip mapping when exporting to .dds. If you don't it will be grainy and appear to shimmer.

I know its a noobish question but I am not sure how to enable mip mapping when exporting .dds textures, does any one know? I am using Gimp.
Some clarification would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your suggestion, I used Paint.net to make a .dds with mip map file of that white tile texture. Unfortunately I have not been able to get this .dds image to work on the building. I place the .dds image into the textures folder (It has the same name as the old .jpg file) and delete the old .jpg file. then I open the .dae file (for the building the texture goes on) in note pad++ and change the file extension of image from .jpg to .dds. when I try to load the map the game crashes.
How do you correctly change a .jpg file to a .dds file in a sketchup textures folder?

Yea I thought that would have worked to, but no matter what i tried i couldn't get it to work. I have another idea thou, I have a converter that converts textured Sketchup models to textured Blender models. I can transfer that textured building to Blender, and put the mip mapped .dds texture on the model in blender. The only problem is I'm not sure how to export .dae objects in Blender with textures, like you can in Sketchup. Can someone tell me how I can export textured objects from Blender to .dae?

If Some one could please tell me how to export textured objects from blender, that make the object and the texture appear in Torque 3D that would be great. When I export the object from Blender and put it into a shapes file in BeamNG, all that appears is the model, no textures. If someone could instruct me on how to do this that would be great. :)
