I am not a modder (meaning to learn) but I am wondering if someone could make a Covet based crossover: an early CUV, with the same mechanics as the car it's based on, with a 1.5 liter engine, all wheel drive, ample ground clearance and tiny wheels. That would be really awesome in BeamNG.

Really like this idea.. Drowsy better check this :).. A Fiat Panda kinda ordeal or do thing would be cool. Someone would need to finally add some doors to the covet and make it a sedan/5 door hatch.. Like this idea though:).. Really hoping Gabe makes like a Suzuki samurai kind of ibishu for some cheap off road fun.

Excellent... It would be really easy to make a 2-door model: make the back end flatter, maybe a spare tire like the old RAV4, raise it a bit and slap it on a slightly edited Covet jbeam!

I thought, when I saw the thread title, that it was going to suggest a tracked Covet, which actually would be one hell of a ride. XD

I thought about doing this but personally lack the modelling skill to pull it off

I had an idea... why not raise the suspension? How would I go about that?

changing the precompression, spring and damp rates on the suspension in the JBeam sorts that one out. However you end up with camber and toe changes because the suspension geometry simply wasnt setup for a boosted ride height. I tried, it looked ridiculous. Sadly I've buggered up my hatch file through my attempts to mod the mesh and I havent fixed it yet to take a screenshot.

I know I played around with my gti and gave it like a solid 2 foot lift and it was a blast to drive lol. The rear suspension likes to collapse to easily. I fixed that.. Was fun to hit jumps and see it bounce around lol

I was trying to do the hillbillie offroader :p The front boosts more nicely than the back, back just simply isn't designed for boosted ride heights.

Eh, perhaps I'll see can I get BeamNG and wings3d to co-operate again (or switch to blender), see what I can do (likely nothing).

The rear in particular suffer from bump steer. Both ends suffer from camber changes through the suspension travel. I say suffer, in reality its intentional and for the short range of suspension travel required on road it serves to improve vehicle handling. But these changes just get way too extreme if you try to boost the ride height.

maybe put the grand marshal or pickup engine into as a rwd varient?

also does the wheel base in the back need to be longer? i am trying to make the car but want to know what type of modeling needs to happen

Nope, it doesn't need to be any longer. It can be RWD (but preferably 4wd) as long as you model the prop shaft and diff (and transfer case for 4wd), but no v8 please; rotate the original engine instead. Keep trying, as BeamNG needs a crossover!:D

the grand marshal is already rwd, and you can remove the front transfer case on the pickup if you want that to be rwd

    no pics yet
I have the engine turned sidways, the front transfer case and i have a question,
do you want to keep the rear suspension or use the grand marshal/d15

I reckon you might want to mod the rear suspension, just need more travel than is normally possible from it.

That's up to you, but keep in mind that you'll need to adjust the camber if you keep the original suspension. Should you swap the rear suspension, I would prefer you take it from the Grand Marshal as the diff is smaller.
