The Golden era Of Rally or Group b, was a very special time in the world of rallying. it was a time when the drivers had mad skills, and the cars were blisteringly fast (some cars having upwards of 600 hp). A time when the spectators risked their lives by standing close to the muddy, snowy, sandy, dusty, or just plain asphalt roads, and when drivers were backed by multi million dollar contracts. It all started in 1982 when the FIA introduced the class as a replacement for both group 4 and group 5 class cars. While the older class cars were more restricted (except for maybe group 5), group b on the other hand had nearly no restrictions leading to cars producing in excess of 500 hp and weighing roughly 2000lbs. Not only were the rules less harsh, but the homologation requirements were less too only requiring 200 cars to be built for homologation. All of this combined gave manufactures the freedom to due just about what ever they wanted with their cars, and as a result, they pushed power to the limit of what was possible for their cars (or what was sane) and later paid the price for it. However not only was the lack of restrictions causing problems, the lack of crowd control also caused a problem of its own with spectators occasionally running across the road. Teams and drivers did complain of the issues but the FIA did nothing about them, some people voiced their concern about the the wild spectators but nothing changed. eventually all of this lead to a series of major accidents (some of them fatal) which in term finally prompted the FIA to take action, banning the group b cars from competition. The short lived era of group b is widely considered to be one of the most popular, exciting and dangerous classes in motorsport history, and is remembered for the flame spitting high powered cars, the crazy yet bold spectators, and the skills of the drivers that were able to control such monsters. And yet even over three decades later the class still remains to be one of the greatest classes the FIA ever made. videos more information (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Group_B) what is your favorite WRC class
