the worst biking mistake i made was checking my tires before a ride and not realizing i had no tread so when i went in the dirt trail in my area all of a sudden instead of going through dirt i managed to get stuck in it and all i was doing was spinning my tires or sliding into a nice looking tree off in the distance since my brakes were covered in mud by the time i got done in the mud pit i was stuck in. i did leave a nice dent for the next person to have fun in though
I’ve fallen off so many times that I have scars on my knee. My worst fall was going over a root on a rough sidewalk at probably about 20mph. That was no fun. That’s probably what gave me the scar.
Ehh well it happens at least you dont be a idiot like me and fall on ice Yes i am a winter rider and yes i do break 1 tooth every year
Hey why did you come in today " i broke my front tooth again" well here we go with the drill --- Post updated --- Riding in the winter is like riding on pavement that hasnt been replaced in about 6 years Bouncy bouncy bouncity smack --- Post updated --- at least i didnt pop a tire on my bike yet on the potholes 1 big one in front of my driveway about 5 inches deep and about 2 inches radius --- Post updated --- well at least you didnt go 30-40mph down a steep hill into a tree like i did 3 years ago
With proper tires winter riding is not so bad. I have managed few times to broke a chain, worst was sprinting uphill on pavement, I get out of saddle and start putting maximum effort, when suddenly there is this loud BANG, which moment I realize my grip had slipped from handle bar, resulting front wheel being diagonal to direction of travel, which in turn did result bicycle braking hard while my body keeping velocity. Now it is clear without saying, that WHEN my body started to slow down, it was sudden and painful, that was well over 30kph skin vs pavement. Let's put it this way, going down on ice does not compare, not even a slightest. Biggest mistake though was riding hours on during cold weather, that gets you a leaky pipes. Also knees are no longer good etc. Was supposed to enter races still this season, but no, got lot of weight gain since had to stop riding and while I still do ride to grocery store and back, it is not the same anymore.
bet its hard to even go uphill without having a case of falling on your butt and scraping the whole way down --- Post updated --- if i were to ride on ice i mine as well just be sliding cause i wont make it past the driveway unless i have nails to puncture the ice but of course if the nail goes backwards back into your tire well have fun with a 50 dollar fix it bill since aparentally cops here like the charge bycicles that ride during the winter must be really bored to pull a bike over and saying mud on your bike in the winter is bad oh heres a fix it ticket
You don't have proper tires, with proper tires you can pull wheelies on smooth ice, like on lake and your legs will fail before anything else on hills. Get some Ice Spiker Pros for example.
i normally ride my bike in the winter but every time i apparently fall or hit a tree cause i hit i pothole then a turn most roads here are a pothole turn bigger pothole turn there was a pretty big one on a busy road where if you were on a bike you would turn into a bird and if you were in a car you would turn into a trampoline going across the road
yeah if only i had bigger stronger tires than the crappyshow my tires are from hitting a pothole yesterday immediately all i hear from the from was a sqeek the i lift up my front wheel making sure my suspension didnt lock itself again due to the mudding i did then all of a sudden another pothole *boink* "hmmmm where did my tire go?" --- Post updated --- must have hit that pothole good to knock off my tire or the person who repaired my bike before forgot to tighten the bolt --- Post updated --- i should have stopped when i heard that squeak
Something is very odd about that bicycle repairing place.... Look, he does not get flats constantly either and I'm sure with that jumping and landing he would get flats constantly, but he does not, with enough pressure wheel will not hit the ground and there will be no flats, low pressure does cause flats though:
have you ever tried to hold your front wheel up for a long time i tried it but failed and all i was going since i had a helmet get my wheel down by body went backwards and just catching rubber until my shirt decided ok bye im going in your tires to stop you
No joke, when I first saw this thread, I read it as "the worst bikini mistake you made." :laughingcryingemoji: I'd say one of the worst biking mistakes I made, was not actually when I rode a bike. I bought a bike one time from the Salvation Army for like, IIRC, $10, and it turned out that I couldn't ride it because it was messed up. I don't remember what exactly on it is messed up, but I really wish now I didn't buy that bike.
I think the worst rides I had where with cold weather. Turns out triple socks and double pair of gloves aren't enough for a comfy ride when the weather is cold enough to freeze my water bottle... Negative temperature can also hurt the eyeballs, had a nice blurry vision for 1h after the ride. Or going too fast on a speedbump, making the water bottle fall on the road and break, so no water on the last half... (and these 3 things happened on the same ride) One pretty bad mistake I also did while road biking was not eating enough before the ride, and not taking enough food with me. I had to stop at a bakery mid-way in order to have enough energy to even be able to spin the crank.
With cold, having loose shoe/sock/glove helps best, outmost layer needs to be a wind blocker, then thin layer of fleece against your skin, some air between the two, idea of any fillings between outer and inner layer is to keep air from moving, but if it is tight fitting, it will conduct heat which is bad when one needs to have layer of isolation. Glasses/goggles and ski mask are mandatory really as well as ton of energy to keep burn going. It is doable, although I do recommend having some extra layers to keep butt from freezing. -20C is ok, -30C doable, -40C is possible for 1 hour, but it will not be sports anymore, it will be battle of survival! For me -10C to +5C was comfort zone, going warmer was possible, but around +15C I had t-shirt and shorts and anything above that was causing overheating. Toes were greatest challenge when below -10C, blocking wind was most important for that, but my toes are not the warmest thing on planet. Construction worker clothing for winter use actually works wonders, not getting style points though!
Well cold weather beats everybody no matter what the cost even if it means dropping a big pothole in your downhill driveway. hmmm this looks like a nice pothole *boink* welp looks like i need a new bike cause i snapped my frame in half --- Post updated --- at least when you eat enough the energy is good but when you dont your struggling to get to 5mph. ok 0-15 in 3 2 1 pffff why did you stop i have no energy and my butt hurts from killing my last bike on that pothole what pothole? the pothole thats sitting in your downhill driveway that i wanted to go 40mph on but then the pavement made a nice size dent
