So I left beam on overnight, and when I got up my pc was super slow.. like ultra slow.
I decided to check resources, I only left one car running from what I remembered, but this was causing absurd performance.

Beam is idling 10.25-11GB of ram, I don't even know if the game was working... but I didn't try to switch to it.

I have 16gb ram and a I7 5820k @3.8ghz... this is far from normal. Unsuprisingly ending the task which also took forever fixed it and the pc is back to normal.

Beam uses more resources from a computer the longer you run it. So since you left it on for quite a long time it used more resources, making the computer slower. Also its normal with most games to to this.

Yes but I've done this many times before, what makes this time different.

Most times it never causes system hangs and crap.

Beam was only running for 10hrs.. I know memory leaks are a thing but this one was out of hand

It should be noted i still had 3gb free

Only, just 10hrs, hopefully your temps were fine.

If I even open Utah it eats like 6gb of my 8gb of RAM. This is pretty normal for beam.

It's called a memory leak, games are not supposed to do that. If a game is idle, there should be no reason to continually allocate memory.

    It should be
Yes but 10.7gb ram with one car on a simplistic map running in the background of a large chrome instance... why would the process for beam alone use that much.

not even once have I seen beam do this on a level that crazy.

I mean, skype will use almost 2gb of ram sometimes and then break when it blows past it's memory limit because it programmed poorly and ads cause memory leaks, along with swapping contacts when texting and long calls. Also swapping, and toggling video status in a call will increase it too.

But idling skype takes around 10hrs to break when nothing is going on.

I have never, I repeat never seen beam burn through so much memory on idle. If it did It never caused system slowdown enough for me to check. I mean I've used 12gb of ram with 6 cars.. not one on a simple track port map with high fps and not alot going on.

And even then it wasn't causing slowdown, my cpu usage on the process was 0%.

Phtt I usually go around a month on my pc without rebooting.. my temps also never reach critical levels during anything I do. Even on air.

I have! It's been months since that last happened to me, but I believe that I have run into a problem of this type with BeamNG.drive before. It was very alarming at the time IIRC.

As DM said, it is a memory leak. We have some of them, and they will be ironed out as the game develops.

Also, why left BeamNG running overnight? :p

I think the response will be @Nadeox1 "I forgot to shut it down...."

For me it's as RobertGracie said. I accidentally left the game open overnight because I had it open in the background while editing game files. In the morning the performance hit was VERY severe and at first I did not know what was wrong with my PC.

I know it's a memoy leak, I've just never seen it this severe before. Also I was modding while watching youtube, started watching youtube only, then fell asleep with it in the background. It happened to me alot =P doesn't really ever causes issues.
