Came across this article about how they keep Horizon Zero Dawn running as good as possible, might be worth taking a look at: http://kotaku.com/horizon-zero-dawn-uses-all-sorts-of-clever-tricks-to-lo-1794385026
The tree LOD technique presented there are already in use by our game. TBH i don't see anything clever there, the video is a PR thing that shows off on how much money they had to spent on awesome MoCap UPDATE: Look there for some good videos: http://gdcvault.com/browse/gdc-17 or https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC0JB7TSe49lg56u6qH8y_MQ/videos
Horizon Zero Dawn is an awesome game... totally addicted to it One of my fav games of last years and one of my fav render engines running in consoles.
Yeah the tree LOD is there, a simple but effective way to keep things light. Ive run across it when i made terrains in BeamNG and its really helpful. The load/unload of certain objects though was clever imo but that might be common knowledge and might be/not be applicable in Beamng. Thanks for the vid links, full of good stuff, always on the hunt for ways to make terrains good looking with minimum effort and as resource effective as possible! I agree, Horizon is a really good game
