I had an Idea recently about how lots of interactive AI could be used in BeamNG, as the maps are amazing, but even the best computers chug after about 5 vehicles are loaded. I thought you could go into settings, have a box ticker that enables traffic AI, the theme of the AI vehicles, and quantity. The Traffic AI vehicles would be low detailed with very basic collision properties, and would dissapear when enough distance to the player has elapsed, e.g out of sight. The AI would drive at different speeds and acknowledge/interact with each other, as well as perform manouevers, e.g overtaking,. and be scripted to go different places, on the AI nodes that we have already. This would be cool in police/emergency responses or races, as the driver would have to weave through traffic, and generally to make the maps feel more realistic while driving around. As mentioned before, the quantity of AI traffic could be changed, as well as the theme, for example if the theme was set as American, the traffic would have American-style vehicles in its listings. I'm not asking for this feature to be implemented, or believe that the engine/coding could support it, but I think this aspect would make the game even better than it is, and I want to hear other players' opinions on it.
Hey, welcome to the forums, i do agree that we should have an AI setting based on following basic rules of driving, as it stands the AI only recognizes basic groundwork, it doesn't know what a line is, what a stop light is, how to use turn signals, what a speed limit is, etc. This WOULD require a lot of work but you would essentially have a framework ready for realistic AI driving. Lucky us, by the way, it seems that the dev are working in these areas right now.
