I've noticed that a lot of people are reporting being able to play BeamNG just fine on computer builds that are weaker than the posted requirements. (For example, I can run on highest settings just fine with a weaker machine than the one tested)

This got me thinking to maybe try and test BeamNG's performance on any different parts configurations I can get a hold of, but I was wondering if there's any kind of criteria where, when met, you can consider the game "playable" on that hardware?

The point of this is to hopefully have some better-rounded system requirements on the Wiki page just to help people out, or even a page with items such as "BeamNG has been tested to work on X machine at X settings". Anyony have any suggestions or criteria that you could consider the game playable when met?

Personally I like to have at least 60 fps, but I don't mind dropping to 30 fps with 5 cars :D I think above 30 fps is what most people think it's playable.

Concluded the first test with my laptop, if it helps. I'm going to take the framerate of an average feature film (24fps) to be considered a playable average.

    The specs:
AMD A8-4500M Quadcore (actually just a dualcore with HT).
    Integrated Radeon 7640G
    8GB DDR3 memory
    Windows 8 x64

The settings: (I went for a "lowest settings but native resolution" setup at first)
    PostFX: Enabled
    HDR: Disabled
    DOF: Disabled
    AO: Disabled

    Resolution: 1366x768
    Model Quality: Lowest
    Texture Quality: Lowest
    Anisotropic Filtering: Off
    Antialiasing: Off
    Shader Quality: Lowest

I also disabled shadow rendering using the World Editor.

    The scenario:
Load up Dry Rock, drive the default Gavril D15 down the left road, crash into a tree at the left bend down the road.

    The performance figures:
Benchmarked with FRAPS, these are my values:

    Highest FPS: 18
    Lowest FPS: 11
    Average FPS: 16.01

    The conclusion:
The average framerate of 16FPS and the highest of 18FPS are well below my playable definition of 24FPS. As this is on lowest settings, still not meeting the requirement, there is no need to test on any higher settings.

To anyone/devs reading, are benchmarks/statistics like this helpful? Any suggestions?

Some weirdness: Core2Quad Q6600 2,4Ghz, 4Gb DDR2 1060 RAM, GTX560Ti. All settings on low, post fx stuff disabled along with DOF, HDR and other stuff.
    Max: 27, Min:15, avarage:22
I think my CPU is aging, because video card load is 60% according to Afterburner OSD.

Conducted the exact same test on my computer, same settings, same map, same vehicle, driving to the same place and crashing into the same tree.

All lowest settings, PostFX on, native resolution (1920x1200 this time).

    The specs:
Intel Core i5-3570 Quadcore (4 cores, no HT)
    nVidia GeForce GTX560 1GB
    8GB DDR3 memory
    Windows 7 x64

    The performance figures:
Again, captured with FRAPS. This time, the figures are as such.

    Highest FPS: 116
    Lowest FPS: 81
    Average FPS: 97

    The conclusion:
Extremely high framerate, results are almost 5x the playable framerate. Will test on a medium, then a high configuration after a break.

Mine runs fine on a fairly modest system:
    Core i5 2500k @ 4.0GHz (quad core)
    8GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM
Nvidia GTX260 (under-clocked by about 200MHz as it's reaching end of life and is overheating a fair bit at full speed!)
    Windows 8 x64

    1680x1050
    Mesh detail high
    AA 2x
    AF 2x
    everything else on medium

Around 40-60fps with 1 car on any map.

Repeated the test on the same machine as above (the 560, i5-3570 machine) with medium settings.

    The settings:
    HDR: Enabled
    SSAO: Enabled
    DOF: Disabled

    Resolution: 1920x1200
    Mesh Quality: Normal
    Texture Quality: Normal
    Lighting Quality: Normal
    Anisotropic Filtering: 16x
    Antialiasing: 2x
    Shader Quality: High

Had shadows enabled in the editor this time.

    The performance figures:
    Captured in FRAPS.

    Highest FPS: 31
    Lowest FPS: 25
    Average FPS: 28

    The conclusion:
Coming close to my definition of borderline-playable, but the game still feels perfectly fluid in motion. SSAO and HDR seem to have the biggest impact on performance, even moreso than AA.

Hope these conclusions are helping anyone out there.

Also edited the moderate requirements on the Wiki page since this has concluded that a 560 can handle playable framerates on medium settings, just in case anyone was thinking they'd need a 660 or better. If anyone has a problem with that edit, let me know.

Using the same test as Admiester:

    System:

    ASUS P8P67 PRO
    i7 2600k @ stock 3.4 GHz 3.8 GHz turbo
XFX GTX 260 Black Edition with fan speed boosted to 60% via RivaTuner
    16GB DDR3 1366 MHz RAM
    SATA 1.5 Gb/S HDD

    The settings:
    HDR: Enabled
    SSAO: Disabled
    DOF: Enabled

    Resolution: 1680x1050
    Mesh Quality: Custom (default?)
    Texture Quality: Normal
    Lighting Quality: Custom (default?)
    Anisotropic Filtering: off
    Antialiasing: 4x
    Shader Quality: High

    The performance figures:
    Recorded in-game with CTRL+F

    Max 376.9
Min 2.4 (for whatever reason I get a massive framedrop the first time a skidmark is made)
    Avg 42

    OFFTOPIC:
Try boosting the fan speed with RivaTuner instead of underclocking, mine was hard-locked at 40% of max RPMs.

Just saying, my 560Ti is downclocked because it reaches 95 C? with fan on full. I set a custom curve for the fan, so it runs on full throttle after 50C?. It doesn't really help... It has 2 HUGE fans, but for some reason it's still unstable, heating.

It's difficult to give precise system requirements because it's very situational and can depend on either the CPU or the GPU heavily.

For example you could have a top-of-the-line Core i7 but integrated graphics, run smoothly with 5 cars at once and everything on low graphics on Grid Map. Or you could have a low end Core i5 with a GTX 780 and get 60 fps on Dry Rock Island with the settings maxed but struggle to get a playable framerate with more than one car.

In lowest settings I get around 200 fps. In highest around 80+

    Intel Core i7 CPU 860 @ 2.80GHz
    RAM 8.00 GB
    64-bit Operating System
    NVidia GeForce GTX 260

    Bought 3 - 4 Years ago (2009)
Had a lot of problems unfortunately

    What is good though is I get around "15 Min - Avg 30 - 45 Max 60+"

    Settings
    Refresh - 60
    Mesh Quality - Custom
Texture Quality - Low - I don't care about graphics, still looks good anyway
    Lighting Quality - Normal
    Anisotropic Filtering - Off
    Anti-aliasing - 1x
    Shader Quality - Low
Gamma - Bit below the middle

(Can handle 2+ cars very well but my computer hates me for doing so)

I'm not sure how well this post is put together but there you go.

Same reason as ast5515 - I set the fans (2 quite large ones!) on 100% before I start a game up, doesn't help with the heat. I also have an Antec900 case with a full compliment of fans and proper airflow (I used to build computers for a living - moved onto bigger boys toys in servers now!). Underclocking is the only way I can keep temps under control. My GPU is old and has been hammered since I've had it, just trying to find the money for a replacement GTX770.

Having said that - this game does seem to use more CPU than GPU in the situations I've tested with, which is good news for my situation! :D

I have usually about 2000 FPS even when I crash cars. I have picture proof. I have a GTX660, 8gb Ram (stock) i7 Core. troof 1.PNG

These are not the game fps, it's more of some internal frame rate (physics calculation?). The actual fps are much lower. Have a look in the left top corner of the screen while you've opened the same debug menu to see the real FPS.

Yeah, but that's part of the reason I've made this thread. The more people we get to test the game, the more likely it is a newcomer will come along and see someone with a similar build running the game just fine. It's basically just trying to cover as many variations of computers as we can.

I think we also should do for example, with 1 car, 2 cars, 3 cars, 4 cars, etc. So if someone wants to have a huge 5 car pileup but meets minimum requirements, they'd be wondering why they have 5FPS.
    But here are my results:
    Specs:
    i5 2500k @ 4.6GHz
    MSI GTX670PE
    G.SKILL Ripjaws 8GB 1866MHz
    Intel 520 120GB

    1 D15:
    Max settings, 1080p:
    On: Industrial
    High: 121
    Low: 48
    Avg: 84
    Lowest settings, 1080p:
    High: 214
    Low: 93
    Avg: 145

    2 D15s:
    Max settings, 1080p:
    On: Industrial
    High: 97
    Low: 31
    Avg: 69
    Lowest settings, 1080p:
    High: 204
    Low: 74
    Avg: 91

    3 D15s:
    Max settings, 1080p:
    On: Industrial
    High: 63
    Low: 29
    Avg: 48
    Lowest settings, 1080p:
    High: 146
    Low: 37
    Avg: 55

My A10-5800K doesn't do all that bad (24-28 FPS on DRI with Grand Marshal Police, actively driving) as compared to RoR, 13-17 FPS on Flatmap not looking at any buildings (MV4). Besides, looks better too...

The livestreams were conducted on a machine with an i7-2600k and a GTX560, the original videos back during the announcement of BeamNG were on an i7-920 and a GTX580, I believe.
