Hi Hi, Quick question but does anyone know how to tune airbags & shocks and what values should be changed in the .jbeam? Basically I made a sports bus by making a bunch of OP parts and while everything else is fine, I'm trying to figure out how to lower it and make it a little more stiff so it corners a bit more flat instead of at 45° angles and on three wheels
Have you tried just adding a beamPrecompression argument to the airbags? Pressured beams should support it, and lowering the axle should automatically mean stiffer airbags as the air in them gets compressed in a lower volume which should mean more density inside and therefore stiffer suspension
just gonna put this disclaimer here, THIS IS NOT THE AIRBAG THAT POPS WHEN YOU CRASH. THIS IS THE SUSPENSION AIRBAGS WHICH THE BUS AND TRUCKS HAVE. ______________________________________________ OT: the suspension can be lowerd if you could reduce the spring height, also, the spring rate is also important for it to ne lower
The issue is that the bus has no springs so there is nothing to really lower lol, the only way is to precompress the airbags I think
There is this line that was already in the file for the axles, changed the values to 1.3 as well as increase the "pressurePSI" from 110 to 160 for the lifted one as well as 80 on the lowered one, it seems to have made a difference in ride height but only a small amount so thats good at least, could the shocks also play a part in how much it wobbles about? Has this line for each of the four on the rear axle: ["ab1l","ab3l", {"beamDamp":22000,"beamDampRebound":44000,"beamDampFast":11000,"beamDampReboundFast":22000,"beamDampVelocitySplit":0.1,"dampCutoffHz":500}],
Lowering the pressure will make it lower but also more wobbly, it's physics. It's like you made a spring less stiff. I wouldn't recommend that.
A thing I'd suggest is to create a pair of axles (just on JBEAM) with wider tracks, I mean, with the wheels moved outside a bit.
would it be possible to reduce the springs height, and maybe width, but make it have the same amount of pressure? like, reduce the overall size or scale down the airbag but keep the pressure the same?
Use precomoression and then calculate what the relative loss of pressure would have to be for it to behave the same way... Too much maths for me
Well, if you are good with JBEAM, you, probably can transform the airbags into coil springs. Although it probably wouldn't be easy.
OK, so I've done a little bit of trial & error, I've changed the beamPrecompression from 1.0 to 0.7 which lowered it, reverted the airbags pressurePSI back to 110 default hoping it tightens it, increased the beamSpring from 100 to 180 on the airbags whatever that did.. stiffened the shocks as well as the front sway bar, it seems to have worked and corners more flat around Bruxelles corner as shown..
