When i firt saw the, at the time, new UI in the experimental branch i thought it looked very nice and it was a big improvment over.. well, windows 98 selection boxes of 0.3 and 0.4. Exiting the experimental branch i thought they were going to build on that one but they obviously turned around and went for another style. Comparing the post 0.5 ui to the experimental branch UI, graphical limitations due to older directX and computer specs of the time aside, i thought that the earlier one had more personality and was more clearer. Why did the dev team go with the more flashy but less clear UI? (soory for bad english, not my first language)
UIs are one of the things in games that goes through a lot of changes and iterations. We have been iterating as well, testing different styles, designs and methods.
