Hey! This game has been a staple throughout my life, and I would like to see some of the old mods get updated. However, as I've noticed, many of the old, favorites of Beamng such as the Land Rover, Del Sol, Prelude, etc.. most likely is never going to be updated. Recently, I've been finding more time on my hands than usual and would like to pick up a hobby other than gaming and what better than reviving some of my childhood? However, since I don't really know the process of updating a mod for Beamng I wanted to ask here on the forums

TL;dr : I would be more than privy to update some of Beamng's old mods but don't really know how, and wanted to find out how

Cars like the Del Sol and the Prelude (I don't even remember the Land Rover it's so old) are so old and broken that it'd probably be less of a hassle to entirely remake the car from the ground up, but maybe use the model. You'd also need permissions from the original modders (Some of which are long gone iirc) to remake those mods.
Lastly, the learning curve for making a car in this game is a bloody vertical line I swear to god.

Haha, yeah, I've been trying to start recently and its been pretty tough, as for the other cars that you mentioned as too far gone, do you think, (with the author's permission of course) I would be able to reuse the model from the mod to rebuild the mod?

I think so, as the model itself wouldn't have to be changed for an update.

I haven't checked in a while, but I think the Del Sol and Prelude both still work. They're missing a bunch of features that have been added since their release, and the textures might be broken by now, but last I checked they still drive.

@Alex_Farmer557 is good at updating old mods. You should ask him for help, as well as join his group where he has a few old mods that he's "fixed."

thanks for the mention, but the removal of the groups tab pretty much prevents joining / inviting people into a group.

Aw, that's unfortunate :C Well then, at least I know that the models from the works can be reused. Could I DM you later maybe if I need some help in updating some mods?

Well, I've proved that the del Sol still works. You just need to delete the lua folder. I already fixed the old reflections and updated the parts system names (everything is under "Unibody" now like the stock vehicles) and now I'm trying to get the engine sound to work.

I don't think I'll be able to add universal wheels, but I can give it a shot.

Oh wow! I dont think I've seen that car inside Beamng in YEARS now! Does deleting the lua file work for fixing most the old mods?

It won't fix everything, but it's certainly a good place to start.

Also, if you're curious, the Prelude works with no issues. It's still missing new features, but it works.

It'd be nice to have a dedicated group to curate mods that have been abandoned by absentee users; not modify, develop, or overhaul per say, just maintain an operational condition from update to update.

@Alex_Farmer557's got one, but all the fixes are made by him and as he said apparently you can't create or join groups anymore.

I was thinking more like a simple cohort of members that have some degree of approval for editing and re-releasing abandoned files (e.g. a good mod is outdated, creator hasn't been online in one or two years, go ahead and get it working again), doesn't necessarily have to be filed under the groups page.

The thing about making a thread for that is you're releasing other people's mods to the public (edited or not) and I think that's against the forum rules. Your best shot is to post each individual fix in each outdated mod's respective thread, if they even still exist.

You could also make a Discord server.

Exactly, you'd have to have some permission or allowance to do that, and afaik re-releasing a mod back into the original thread is still a no-go without the author's permission. I'm speaking entirely hypothetically here by-the-way; I normally work over 80hrs/week, I'm not doing shit with old mods outside of my own little projects.

I might be wrong then, I seem to have just found another instance of someone else releasing an old mod back into it's original thread.
