Hi, I decided to create a small collection of 3D modeling techniques ranging from basic to complex. I have spent a while picking them and tried to include tutorials that explain every step and don't just say "apply the extrude modifier at type 2 settings" halfway through as i found stuff like that very annoying when i began to learn to model. They are all for 3DS max which i use and i beleive can be downloaded for free from their website under an educational license. Contrary to popular belief, you don't have to be being educated to use these, the "educational" part of the name refers to learning to use the software for non commercial purposes so don't be afraid to download a copy. I have narrowed it down to one tutorial for each category and a simple texturing tutorial relevant to BeamNG. It doesn't help to have to much choice haha. If you need any more just PM me and i'll be happy to send them over. Beginner: Useful tutorial for getting to grips with the UI and basic features of 3DS max. Fairly basic modeling technique which consists of removing material rather than the more advanced technique of adding material however the end product is still nice looking and is more useful than a mug. Theres no speech as on simple tutorials it just drags on and isn't even neccesary. I would advise hitting mute. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aAp-pNZY52I UVW unwrap tutorial that i found incredibly useful when i was learning. It is surprisingly easy to create simple UVW maps such as these, for more complex maps such as Gabes the process is considerably harder. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPrnp_kLOvY Medium: High poly car wheel. Probably the most useful tutorial on the internet for getting to grips with the some of the more more complex features of 3DS max as it is really clear and explained very nicely. My first ever mod was a set of these for Rigs of Rods ;P http://cgi.tutsplus.com/tutorials/model-a-high-poly-car-wheel-in-3ds-max-part-1--cg-1296 Advanced: Fiat 500 intended for rendering. Contains many useful techniques applicable to other types of modeling. It never assumes you know how to do something which is useful to people who are fairly new to modeling. When i found this a while ago i didn't actually complete the model just read it and still found it very usefull. http://www.3dtotal.com/team/Tutorials/fiat500/fiat500.asp When i describe these as Beginner, Medium and Advanced, i am talking from the perspective of someone who has never modeled before in their life. Obviously there is practically no limit to the complexity of 3D modeling however this is a good place to start. Robbie
Re: [Tutorial] Modelling, UVW Unwrapping and texturing in 3DS Max (in depth guide with pictures) General rule of thumb: Try not to post just half a tutorial, just wait till the whole thing is done, then post
Re: [Tutorial] Modelling, UVW Unwrapping and texturing in 3DS Max (in depth guide with pictures) Notice the WIP tag?
Gone a different direction with this. I think you will find this more useful anyway, these are 4 tutorials i used whilst learning to model
