I personally think it sucks. I would understand if there would be some kind of donate button and you could help the creators of the mods you like this way. But valve taking 75% of the profit is just utter bullshit. I really do hope this does not come to other games than Skyrim. The problem is, that Valve has nothing to do with the mods, so they dont deserve any money for it. I really hope Valve will stop doing shit like this to their loyal fans and hopefully remove this feature. If they continue to do this, I seriously consider changing my main pc gaming platform to GOG or something else, because at least they listen to their fans.
when i saw that thing. paying for mods, wtf. mods are not a complete conversion made from scratch with a source engine or any kind, its user created content, its not meant to be paid. i honestly thing that whole workshop thing is complete bullcrap. i was thinking about buying skyrim a while ago, now i think ill stick with the pirated version.
Good idea, but it's valve. I don't know how they manage it all the time but they have ill concieved implementations of good ideas. It's weird
The same principle works quite well in SecondLife and i honestly don't understand the outrage. Those modders share their free time, sometimes weeks, just for some little asset or a large house. BeamNG cars anyone? If they want a couple extra bucks - why the hell not?
Money for mods is bad idea IMO. Not all mods are the same quality. You will never be sure the mods will have active development or that it will be up-to-date No homogeneous prices Only 25% goes to modder I rather see a donation button.
I'll NEVER pay for a mod for any game, neither I'll charge anything for the mods I'll make. But that's my point of view. I don't see it wrong to sell your work, even if it is for a game. If it's crap or not, well, that's up to the buyer to decide if it's worth paying or not. What's the big deal about it?

Content is what you get for a price, and that will usually imply that the content WILL be as good as the game itself. Mods are unpaid, done voluntarily, and are only as good as the experience of the creator allows. If you start allowing content, that wasn't supposed to end up on the same level as official work in the first place, to make profit, the modders will just assume they will get money as long as they get it working. Skyrim mods are what generates a profit, because they put so much work into those mods that it almost looks identical to reality, and rightly so. Then you see what GMod has in terms of "mods". There's a fair number of awesome works, then a lot of "it is good enough for me to dick around with" mods, then there's a giant landfill of "my frends likd this plz donat for moar saves with gunz evrywere" content that barely would be worthy of being called a mod. Money is a powerful possession. It will turn enthusiasts into greedy slackers, and make the good veterans look bad as a result. Notice how updates never happened a couple years ago. They made the game in full so they could make more money. Now we have pre-releases that are more prevelant than actual finished products, and it's becoming okay to give out something that isn't worth the final price!
Should be a donation, not a price. You can't guarantee the quality or functionality of the mod. Also 25% isn't fair.

The greedy modders out there are going to fail either way by people not buying their mod, or straight out pirating it. It's honestly the worst way of going about this I feel. Donations, as mentioned, is at least more sensible. Even some of the mods for BeamNG (if I actually had money #StudentLife) are ones that I would support if they had a way to donate to them. The incentive to help out someone giving their free time to a community to produce free products is greater than that of having to pay an upfront fee just to use it. I hope garry's mods does not end up having paid mods all over the place, garry's mods is based on user created content, so now what your telling me is i have to pay the game, 10$. and lets say that half of the mods are gonna ask money, i have around 300, lets say about 2,50 for every mods, half of 300=150*2.50= 375$ no, just no. I'm gonna be honest here, the only game that i haven't got pirated at first is beamng, i bought it about an hour after the initial release. i also have the google chrome extension that lets me download workshop content straight from the workshop. I have gotten better with that stuff tho, my steam library almost has 170 games, with time i got money from birthdays and etc. But im gonna stay with piracy if i have to pay 30$ for a game and add another 40$ of freaking mods over that. This workshop pay for mods is just... no, just no. I am never gonna support it, never. i have 300 garrys mod mods as of right now, i will keep them. Lets see how long it will take for Microsoft and ea-games to do the same thing, and suddenly, out of nowhere, minecraft is gonna appear on steam with steam workshop, and oh what is that? dice has now made battlefield moddable. Yeah, lets see how long it will take for everyone to do that, every game will now be moddable and we will have games that are half made but with 1000$ worth mods out there. Thats what im predicting.
