I want to upgrade my PC to run BeamNG better and I'm wondering what I should upgrade first. Currently I have an AMD Ryzen 5 2600 (3.6ghz), GTX1070 OC and 32GB ram (2133mhz) What would be best to upgrade for better performance in BeamNG? Thanks
If you'd like a higher resolution, 1440p, you need to upgrade gpu, and cpu (motherboard and ram if motherboard/cpu requires DDR4/5, if necessary) as well as fps will halve from 1080p. (as seen in most games, mainly observed from 1080p to 1440p on GTX 1060 6GB) If you plan to lower resolution, you need to aim for a slightly higher cpu as lower resolution will be more cpu intensive (varying on gpu) if you want more fps at the same resolution, likewise you need to upgrade gpu and cpu (along with motherboard and ram, if necessary). Important to note that on higher end gpu, it takes up more cpu resources. you'll feel stutter if you upgrade from 1070 to say 4070 and if the cpu does not have enough resources, you will have stutters as the gpu constantly has to wait until the cpu frees up tasks and can give instructions to the gpu. Also if you'd like more traffic while maintaining at a specific fps, you should ask yourself the resolution and fps you're intending to play at, and opt for a much higher end cpu. generally I would opt for Intel as the number of vehicles you can spawn can go up to 20 or even 50 if you have an excess overhead in cpu resources and ram. (meaning a mid end gpu paired with a very high end cpu, e.g. GTX 1060 6GB + i5-13600KF + 32GB DDR5 6400Mhz CL32) Ryzen will more or less do the same but from my observations, cannot go as high as Intel's newer cpu, and fps drop is more pronounced when reaching higher traffic spawn. Many people opt for AMD for its very long lifespan, and with simple traffic, you can spawn a lot more traffic while maintaining fps. TLDR; higher resolution will halve fps. Lower resolution will use more cpu resources. higher end gpu will use more cpu resources. higher resolution lowers the cpu resource usage from the gpu. upgrading gpu can backfire performance if paired with a lower end cpu (if you plan to upgrade gpu first) with stutters. having a much higher cpu paired with the gpu can maintain fps while spawning more traffic. generally have a note of what your new pc performance goals, e.g. resolution, fps (on highest settings), how many traffic vehicles do you want (Simple/Normal, both vary greatly) These are just some guidelines so that you can decide what you can upgrade first if budget is tight All the best to you.
