He tried reinstalling all the browsers...

And I don't recommend a in place Windows reset. I recommend doing a full on reinstall, with a fresh format.

computers junk. throw it out your window onto a bridge and it should fix itself.

On a real note, I would reinstall windows and clear your drives.

Still... I wouldn't recommend doing an inplace full reinstall... some viruses can stay in memory or infect the installer.

Another thing I just noticed, sometimes the titles and subforum names become highlighted with a directed link to beamng.com/#. Right-clicking and opening in a new tab takes me to BeamNG's homepage, left-clicking on them pops up a searchbind redirect (which goes to Yahoo).

Also, the browsers seem to be affected in Incognito mode (or private window) but not as often.

That happened to me too, i just used the windows installation cd to set the computer in the time before it happened, it did remove some of my files because it went a few weeks backwards.

You seem to know what you are doing, so I can't offer too much you haven't done already. I would check the browsers' extensions folders as well, but ultimately I would most likely reinstall Windows.

He tried that, there's no restore point. He's gonna have to reinstall Windows by disk.

Most viruses can't survive in a text document, but in a zip? I recommend opening those up in a VM to avoid it coming back.

Well, if he didn't back up for some reason, and just backed up all of his files to reset, some viruses could infect (or take over, example being the ILOVEYOU VBS worm) so probably best to make sure all is fine before going ahead and setting back.

He could mount the back up drive in Linux and run some anti virus software there..... That's probably what he could have done instead of reinstalling windows thinking about it
