What was BeamNG 0.1/0.2 like? Did it even exist?

As Beam's first retail version was 0.3, I started wondering what 0.1 and 0.2 could have been, and decided to ask the forum and devs about it.

What were they like? Or maybe they were not things, and 0.3 was the first working build?

I've got a theory that 0.1 was CryEngine stuff, and 0.2 were pre-retail T3D versions.

I'm guessing 0.1 and 0.2 were the EXTREMELY early alpha versions shown in 2012.

The original Beam had just the Pickup truck and crappy texture problems, it also ran on CE3
    And yes, I am back.

    Ok?
Anyways, I also believe that there was no vehicle selector and everything was spawned via a world editor of some kind.
Oh yeah plus a cool map that doesn't exist anymore.

    Welcome back.

To be on topic: I think I didn't start playing BeamNG until I got one of the techdemos. It only had the Covet. It's actually really hard for me to imagine what it was like in 0.1, compared to now. BeamNG has come a long way.

I bought Beam right as the Moonhawk came out, then I had an updating issue for, like, six months, then I fixed it and so on.

I may be mistaken but as far as I know the very first public beta release was 0.3.0. Interesting if before public beta they had an 0.1 or 0.2 but that would have been
    before my time.

I think when I first got the game, the Barstow wasn't even out yet.

The first version released was 0.3.0, the game had already switched to Torque3d at that point.

Thats the earliest public version of the game ever released.

As for what it was like, well. It sucked compared to what we have now. Think Rigs of Rods with a slightly less janky physics engine minus literally all the features and that is 0.3.0

Perhaps the earlier versions were just a simple demo, like the techdemo, one car and one map.
The first released version runs on DX9 and there are many bugs, even something as simple as exiting to the main menu from a level can cause a crash.
For those who have never seen 0.3, here's a few pictures.

    The vehicle selector

This was how you spawned multiple vehicles.

That's the version I think the techdemo I tried was based on.

I barely remember what the techdemo itself was like, but it was indeed nothing like what BeamNG is now. The only things I do remember is that it had a different UI, and as I said earlier, it only had the Covet as an available car, and the Covet used the original default engine sound.

Heck, I remember when the game didn't have the sounds of glass breaking, and when the Derby Arena map had a more dull and eerie environment to it.

This video was on the homepage for years and pretty much covers all the cars and features in the first version.
