I'm thinking about getting into modding and making some paid mods for BeamNG. I was planning on charging $1 USD/Euro Equivelant for each vehicle. I was also considering trying to start a "paid mod program" and convince others to let me release there vehicles through me with me getting a 30 percent cut of the profit while the remaining 70 percent goes to the original author. I'm trying to encourage people to make higher quality models since we aren't getting enough ported content (the best and easiest way to get a high quality model) to meet the high demand for next gen quality content.

Would the devs have any power to stop me from doing this (legally i mean) and would they be allowed to be hosted/linked to/discussed/promoted here?

Paid mods? On BeamNG there is no such thing as paid mods. The best way to get money is to setup a Patreon or Paypal where people can donate. Other then that, you are out of luck.

And also, the moderators wouldn't allow you to this.

Paid mods has been discussed extensively here:
    http://www.beamng.com/threads/modders-we-need-to-talk.21455/
NOTE - That thread is only a "Let's speak about.." thread. Those aren't final plans, only ideas.

Here's my own opinion about your post
Why would I affiliate with you? I could do everything by myself so I get the whole cake? (Theorically speaking)

You can sell only content you are 100% owner of. If something is not made by you (anything, Jbeam, 3D Model, a texture), selling that would become a fraud general speaking.

Well, can't give you an exact answer to that yet, as that would be the first case.
Just an observation. A Paid Mod would mean that you have to support your work and make sure it works within the updates. Also, without a proper 'Paid Mod' system yet, I can just see people sharing the mod privately to not pay.
A donation button may be the better choice (Yeah, income would not be the same, but one would not pass as a 'money-grabber' as the idea of 'modding should be done for fun, not money' is not really rare.

why do you wanna get 30% of profits on these forums when u can upload to a Russian site like modsgaming.ru and get 100% of the profits, and where you can upload low quality mods and still get the money?

Because we have the users. Also, we take 30%, the author will get 70% most likely.

We can remove any content for whatever reason. This is our home.

As a modder, i would never go through you. I cant imagine anyone else would either. I would have no reason too, no trust, and you don't deserve any money from the months upon months of work i put into my mods just because you say so. I would gladly give the devs %30, because they are the ones that created this awesome sandbox for us to put mods in in the first place, but some random dude on the internet? no way.

On top of that making a paid system will not increase the amount of high quality mods. All it will do is increase the amount of crap, stolen, illegal content being submitted by people hoping to make a quick buck.

On top of THAT you have no way to make anything protected. Mods are a simple zip file, anyone can take them and upload anywhere for free. The only way this works is if the devs implement a protected system for mods, in which case im sure they would have their own store of sorts and again no one would be going through you.

And of course the devs have the power to stop you, they created the game, they created the forums, they have final say and total power here. And I wouldnt want it any other way, they know whats best for their own system.

Your right, there is really little point in paid mods as they will end up on modsgaming.ru very fast...

instead of paid mods, why not a support the author button? it would avoid the fiasco that was skyrim paid mods (i get where bethesda is coming from)
    --- Post updated ---
could be possible with the steam accounts. some one can have a card linked to a steam account (or the steam wallet) and it basically transferring money from one account to another.

Won't work. Implementing that would cost us more than the whole system would ever bring in...
