I've had BeamNG for a few months already and I've been playing it using a keyboard. It's not that bad, but hardly elegant or ideal as I don't have analog control of things like steering and throttle. I was hoping to get a controller to improve the experience, but I don't know if I should get an Xbox controller or a PlayStation controller (or some other controller entirely?). I have no experience with either, so that isn't a factor. I like that the PS controllers have a symmetrical joystick layout but I noticed that, unless I want to pay big bucks for a newer one, they have a strange shape that might not be as comfortable to hold. I'm very much a novice here, so I'll leave it up to y'all. What would you recommend?
I've used both a wired 360 controller and a DualShock 4 Playstation controller. Both will work in game, but the 360 controller seems to be better supported owing to its popularity as a PC controller over the DualShock. The DS4 is natively supported in BeamNG though, which is nice, but the PlayStation button graphics are not included in the game.
*yet personally i absolutely love the DS4 controller feel and much prefer it over the Xbox controller and it is natively supported too. Button graphics will come later (possibly soon)
A first-party DS4 is a little out of my price-range; would an off-brand one still be okay? The same goes for the Xbox 360 controller. I also have my eye on something like the Logitech Gamepad F310 which is very affordable, while still being from a brand I can trust; would that be a good choice?
Also with a software called DS4Windows (it emulates your ps4 controller as an xbox 360 controller) you can choose the color of the lights which is pretty cool.
I initially tried using DS4Windows with BeamNG, but I found it caused issues with duplicating button presses over Bluetooth. Plugging the controller in over USB without DS4Win seemed to work perfectly fine.
I've got the problem inverted - in bluetooth it only detects the emulated controller fine but in wired it detects both.
