Why are all cars so slow? 35 top speed?

I'm brand new to the game, and pc gaming, and trying to get it set up for my son. It seems to be working but all the cars in the game are really slow. Even the car that looks like some sort of supercar struggles to get past 60 miles an hour. Is there some global setting that I don't understand? I haven't changed anything from stock. Most of the trucks can't even get over 35 miles an hour. They seem to be shifting through their years but not really going anywhere. What am I missing? He shows me all kinds of YouTube videos where cars are going hundreds of miles an hour and they all seemed to be operating like normal cars. Why is every car I select acting like it's got 30 horsepower?

 

by standard you need to change gears yourself, you can change to arcade gearbox that will change gears for you by pressing Q.

 

Are you using any mods?, the new update broke most old mods so that you need to shift in manual

 

Could you attach a video of this issue? It would be easier to diagnose that way.

 

So I determined it was the Xbox controller I had connected; it wouldn't apply full throttle and I had to search to find where to modify the controller settings to fix it. Oddly enough in the vehicle settings, not controller. Consider my issue solved.
