Today I've been binge watching old Neilogical and WhyBeAre videos just for some memories and such when I got a feeling. Why is the BeamNG community looking for quality, not quantity? This got me intrigued and looked at old mod reviews from 4-8 years ago (not in order). People roast some BeamNG modders for their mod being lower quality. That is because they don't know modding as much sometimes (but some mods are terrible quality on purpose). Old lore friendly mods game me a feeling that the BeamNG community is not what it was before. And, I thin its because the game is getting updates and new features that make the game evolve from just a physics car game into an anything with cars game. Especially with some of the old mod reviews reviewing, WBIMP, VarietyMod, Bruckell Legran Limo w/ D-Series Frame Swap, and... the ETK S-Series and the 1300. Luckily both the ETK S-Series and the 1300 got remastered, but the rest fell into broken states and went "Unsupported" or "Outdated", mainly "Outdated" and mainly they broke due to game updates or the owner doesn't want to update it anymore. I get that most modders want to not have so much issues to fix an old mod they made 8 years ago. Or, with the MK1 Pessima Wagon. They killed themselves, but it somehow still works to this day. R.I.P Narwal.
Probably because during that time, BeamNG itself was simple. It could also be argued that the community has learned how to keep up with the developers in terms of quality, and even surpass them sometimes.
Never seen a single mod pass modern developer quality. CCF is probably the first one people love to tout as better than dev, and it has some interesting bells and whistles but even just crashing it, it spikes way more than it should.
Things naturally get more complicated since people want to improve, and when things improve, expectations get higher. Happens with modding, music, technology, pretty much everything. Expectations are getting too extreme though you're right, low quality mods getting roasted is unfair. Everybody's gotta start somewhere. Yeah it's too hard to pass. 1. They have a whole team and 2. Once a modder gets good enough they usually get hired. The CCF and other Theo/Finn mods have a bit of a team and they get close, but yeah
I totally agree with that, mods used to be quite simple, and now they have all the vanilla features, and some that aren't even in the game
They feel too good almost. I know that a lot of those users put a ton of effort into those mods, and much credit deserves to go to them. It almost feels like a fair few of the ones now should be dev vehicles though. A lot of the older ones have almost a charming jankyness to them which I quite like (also nostalgia) though I do like a lot of the newer ones.
Back in 2014/2015, there was little to no modding documentation. Everyone had to start from 0 and figure things out from scratch. I had to dig through and test random programs on my computer just to figure out how to open a jbeam file. Now you could make a textbook out of the info the devs have posted. People are probably more critical of simple mods because the barrier of entry is so much lower than it was back then. Before, if a feature was missing from the caldera it was because I couldn't figure out how to add it. On a side note, people definitely got flamed for low quality mods back then too
BACK IN THE DAY, peopl used to enjoy making modes and MADE THEM FOR FUN. NOW.... Every1 who know how to make a MODE only want money. Thats why we dont have nice tings anymore..... --- Post updated --- MODES NOW ARE A GIANT MONEY GRAB --- Post updated --- CANT FIND ANYTHING GOODWITHOUT PAYING. I APPRECIATE ALL THE PEOPLE WHO MAKE MODES FOR FREE BECUASE THEY WANT TO AND NOT JSUT FOR MONEY. thats why i just download pirate versions of the paids modes on modeLAMB.
i can say back in my day there were so many mods such as the ford crown vic the blue bird school bus iron man etc.
