Why are symmetrical UV maps not stacked?

    symmetrical maps are shift to the left by 1

    The maps could be stacked and have the same effect, is it just cleaner to do it this way?

    I think that's something 3DS Max does on it's own. It does not have any real impact, UV maps just repeats infinitely.
