    It’s off topic ok

YouTube is just being ruined. First off, the ads. 99% of the time they are double no skip 15 second ads. That’s 30 seconds for a video that’s probably not even 30 seconds. Like what if I need to do cpr on someone and pull up a video about it, then I get 30 seconds worth of ads. On top of that they are super often and always happen right in the middle of the action. Even skipping forward or rewinding brings up an ad. At least on cable there are designated spots for the ads, and they aren’t the same thing over and over. Then they’re not even letting me watch from the homepage unless I turn on my watch history. So basically if you let them track you (even though they know more about you than you do yourself) then you can watch from the homepage. And now they are removing ad blockers. I get that creators get money from ads, but a full screen pop up that’s stops video playback and makes you wait until you can X it out? Really? And why does it show ads on smaller channels, like mine? They don’t earn money at 300-400 subscribers. So why is it showing ads? I’m really sick of this, and want to switch, but there isn’t a better alternative, and I don’t want to abandon my channel or channels that I watch. YouTube, this is ridiculous. They want more viewers, but are losing them because it’s getting ruined. Something needs to be done about this.

Update: now they’re blocking the video player if you have an adblocker. Like I don’t want to pay 15$ a month for no ads. And they are doing ads when you click on a livestream. That’s just ridiculous.

If you have a mouse with buttons on the side, you can just click back and forth to skip all ads:p

I try it but almost every time I get an ad.

The issue is that creating a video hosting site is an extremely difficult thing to do and is mostly a loss-making business. It's a bit like trying to start a mass-market car company in 2023. No chance unless you have the funds to stomach the colossal losses for the first 15+ years..

I agree YouTube is being completely ruined, but you can thank Google for that, which is one of the most hideous, morally bankrupt companies on the entire planet.

I can just about handle the ads. Most of the videos I watch are long-form anyway, and I'll usually peruse the comments between shorter videos, so I'm not usually inundated by them. But their treatment of the community seems superbly short-sighted and—considering the wonderful variety of humble, inventive creators that compose their better half—completely tone-deaf.

Case-in-point: the recent SSSniperwolf vs Jacksfilms debacle, which YT handled with all the tact of an insult comic and the punctuality of a sloth.

I grew up in the 1990s when all we had was 3-4 free TV channels. There was usually about 7-9 minutes of ads per half hour across 3 commercial breaks. I'm not suggesting YouTube isn't being ruined, but I've always appreciated that ads helped me get a lot of stuff for free. I've never installed an ad blocker in my life.

Although, one time I visited the USA as a kid and noticed the morning cartoons there had twice as many commercial breaks as I was used to. It was kinda nauseating!

Just upgrade your adblocker(I prefer uBlock Origin) or use Invidious. Ads in the middle of a video is not acceptable

Personally I'm not really affected by the ads - even the mid-video ones, I've learnt to just tough it out through them and then when it gets back to the video I just rewind a couple seconds back (or not at all if the video just started)

    Livestream
ads though... Oh boy, I do have a slight hatred of those things. I once got a 15-sec unskippable ad in the middle of a very exciting last lap battle in a Fanatec GT World Challenge livestream. LAST LAP BATTLE. Dude, it was so intense until you had to ruin it with your stinky-ass Macpac water bottle ad I don't want a F****** MACPAC WATER BOTTLE WHAT THE F-

Do not subscribe premium, subscribing premium is enabling youtube and alike, if you give an inch they will take a mile.
It's normal to hate them if you are a normal person.

I don’t think that was on purpose to be fair as Chrome apparently has the same issue.

What THEY have done, is announce they’ll be banning Ublock Origin from the Chrome web store next year for reasons we all know.

What a slimy, disgusting creature of a corporation Google is. Should’ve been broken up years ago if our politicians weren’t so corrupt.

At this point, YouTube is now seeing the writing on the wall. The more aggressive their anti-adblocker measures get, the more users leave, the faster YouTube dies. There should be an alternative.

When you switch the Firefox user agent to chrome, it loads perfectly fine. I’m pretty sure it’s on purpose

tbh. Youtube did put this on themselfs years ago when they allowed 4k videos. I rather have 1080p be the max viewing level for free and everything above that you have to pay for.

But when you have governments that don't enforce monopoly laws and no real competition along with Governments employing their own stupid rules you get what we have now. Youtube could be better if they look at how moderation is done on "self love" sites and Artwork sites where the uploaders state what age rating the video by default and it can NOT be downgraded from that point like what youtube does to clearly Adult themed videos just to ban the account because it was in the kids section.

This also brings up youtube kids. This has caused so many issues and should just be removed from exitance. This alone has caused more problems than anything.

Youtube's system to review videos is clearly a bot system or if it's done by a people they are on a time limit and quota so they are on automatic mode, they are not given a clear set of rules and what each one equates to a correct punishment. Legit ad's (like cleaning supplies for example) are not able to say if they are cool with being on more "offensive" videos and what kind of videos. This alone with a revamped tag system would help everything. Speaking of ads.

Google as a whole should revamp their entire ad approval system as it's just bad and leads to nothing but scams. Some searches should ONLY show specific things such as Police stations, Fire houses, Hospitals - Emergency rooms and other emergency services with 0 ads with the nearest ones being at the top. Stating what is an ad and what is not needs to be more clear AND the close ad button needs to be larger and clearer especially on mobile. As for in video ads. Polls have shown people are cool with Two, 10 second or less ads. 1 at the start of the video and one at the end after the video is done.

Now for me regarding mid roll ad's I am ok with the 10min system but the rule to me is this. The ad in the middle of a video HAS to be a 10 (or 15 i can handle) or less ad. Any longer it becomes a problem even if it's skippable. Ad's at the start of a video should be 15 seconds (only if skippable if not then 10 or less) or less and same at the end.

But this is how I look at the mess google has made for themselfs and my personal thoughts. But I don't get paid way too much to make bad choices so who truly knows what's going to happen. Were all just talking on a game fourm anyway lol.
