XP was the best when it was out. But since windows 8 everything from Microsoft has just been ad ware and since I don't even want to think on how to use Linux or make things work on it I'm stuck on 10.
Win10 has mining backdoor, it often happens when you left your computer at desktop and away from keyboard, after a while the computer it'll start to consume much more electricity and the cooling fans spin like crazy, until you move your mouse. So always shut down before AFK.
Customer experience features, there is gigametricton worth of tasks that get triggered when computer is idle for a moment, automatic maintenance, said customer experience, which really is just data collecting in name of app compability, updates, driver updates, updating just for updates sake. Too much auto everything, you think you have turned everything off, but after a week magically options have changed. It's not much better with Win 8 either, even Win 7 has that silly nonsense. However artificially well working OS versions are phased out, development tools in update religion fashion are pushed out only for win10 and soon nothing works with older versions. MS view about OS is that is only program you need to run, my view is OS should be thin invisible layer which allows plenty of stuff to be run by command only, not automatically unless specified to be run automatically. I have set Office so that it does not use anything online, all online features disabled, yet it tries to call home right when opening PowerPoint for example. So obviously I'm not compatible with Windows 10 because it is of different philosophy, but for average persons that don't care about anything but easy, that is just fine, big corporations will know color of food paste you get for tomorrow, much better than you could ever decide for yourself, that is much easier and safer I like my Windows 98, it just works and does nothing it is not told to do.
10. I enjoy it. It's clean and easy to use, and I love the dark mode functionality. I wish they brought back themes tho, I'd like to apply something like the "Zune" theme from XP. Except different and more customizable. Think 10's regular dark theme + zune, so basically morpheon dark for chrome
It's not mining. That's when it triggers downloading updates, virus scanning, disk defragging etc. If you set the update system up properly you can basically stop that
Another reason NOT to use Win10 is the help function. Before Win10 you can hit F1 to open the winhlp on nearly every windows program, in Win10 it opens up a (mostly useless) webpage instead.
