Alright, I think this is the right place for this thread. As the title asks, is anyone interested in a pro-mod derby vic, based after the grand marshall IRL, I'm a derby driver, so I think I can make one right. I've never actually built a ford (they take a lot of knowledge to build) but I think I know enough about them to make it good. I'm also 100% new to this modding stuff, so it would be a learning project on both sides, derbying and computers. Here's what I'm going for: And here's a good look at a vic that would be similar to what I'm doing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TKbWBfuUjwM#t=57 A list of what I would do Bumpers - Loaded and welded, front and back. Something that won't fall off and won't bend as easily as the moonhawk bumpers. Maybe an option for a pointy bumper on the front. The back one will help the trunk stay squared, like the last picture I have above Stripped interior - All seats, minus the driver seat removed. Maybe removed head rest for rear visibility Notched frame - Single or double notch on the trunk frame, this helps the trunk roll nicely. Headers - A derby car isn't a derby car without headers. I'd make them 4-in-1's, like the cars above so they are more stable than other header mods I've seen. Tilted - Panther platform frames are angled up in the front. To make the cars much stronger, we do what is called tilting, pitching, coldbending... take your pick. This is bending the front of the frame down slightly, usually at the crossmember, so it's even with the ground. Cage - a 4 point cage consisting of door bars, a dash bar, and a bar behind the seat Kickers - bars running from the dash bar to the frame. 2 options would be kickers to behind the tilt (this prevents the frame from pushing back) and kickers in front of the tilt (this slows nosing up).. different guys like different setups, both have their perks. Halo - the roll bar in the back door area behind the B pillar Dished trunk - This is what we call the technique where we pound in the trunk like you see in the pictures. Remove speaker deck - I really doesn't serve a purpose, it makes it easier to see more out the back with it gone. See pics above Welded doors/Bolted hood - Haven't seen a successful mod on this yet.. but it's ideal Rear window bar - Some guys run a bar from the roof to the trunk. I'd have an option for this Front window bar - Structurally, not much importance Hump plates - plating the hump where the rear axle goes in Gas tank protector - with the gas tank relocated to the inside of the car, you can put a cage around it, one side connected to the 4-point cage, the other side touching the back of the car. One advantage of this is protection for the gas tank... the REAL reason for it is it slows down bending in front of the humps in the same way kickers work. Spaced core support - wouldn't serve that much purpose in this game... but it looks cool Roof sign - Cause derby car Plates - MAYBE, if I need a way to stiffen up the front frame, I might put some plates on it Suspension swap - IRL, a suspension swap on vics is a must as theirs is aluminum. Not sure if this would be necessary... the grand marshall does lose steering pretty easy, so maybe. Creasing - This would probably be tough. The trunk would be the easiest part to crease, I'd leave the front fenders alone Rolling the doors - See in the pics how the tops of the doors are pounded down? Not much purpose over a bigger window.. some guys will argue that it will help slow the car from bellying out, sort of like a crease, but I don't think it makes any difference. It just looks cool.
Well I've made this, however, it isn't as good as I could make it now, as I've gotten better at jbeam and model-smoothing work. I had planned on making a realistic derby mod for the Grand Marshal... http://www.beamng.com/threads/9883-Slayer-s-D15-Derby-UPDATE!?highlight=d15,+derby
Ah, yea thats pretty sweet! Well if you end up doing one for Grand marshal or moonhawk, you can feel free to contact me and I can give you some ideas, as someone with experience with this stuff!
Well for the Moonhawk we have this: http://www.beamng.com/threads/5231-Bruckell-Derbyhawk-Complete-Overhaul-V1-1 and this: http://www.beamng.com/threads/8252-Bruckell-Moonhawk-Sedan-Station-wagon (which includes derby versions of sedan, coupé and wagon)
