I recently downloaded BeamNG.drive because I really miss it.
So once the download and installation were both completed, I lauched BeamNG.drive as normal, by the shortcut icon.
I have Windows Vista SP1 and SP2 both installed and also DX11. This is what happened:

Did you install it over an older installation? As in, did you still had an old 'BeamNG.Drive' folder in 'Documents' ? Delete it in any case and retry

Just downloaded it and got the same problem here. Running Windows Vista 32 bit and starting the game through Steam.

Edit: attempted to start the .exe directly from the folder and got this error message:

Yes, the OS may be the cause of the crash, but I am using SP2, it is similar to 7, so it should work... Remember when my pc melted the GPU? That pc was Vista as well, but BeamNG.drive could run there.

Capture4.JPG Same thing happens when I launch BeamNG.drive from Steam. Capture5.JPG

Yeah, well I found a document from MS (https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/ms683219(v=vs.85).aspx, section Remarks) from which I infer that the problem is in an invalid function call to K32GetProcessMemoryInfo which simply isn't defined as such in Windows versions below 7.

I hope someone finds this useful.

Well, at this point, we can only hope that one of the programmers sees this.

Well the general solution is migrate to windows 7, especially considering the minimum requirement is listed as 7 not vista.

I've had this game since pretty close to the beginning and only recently have I encountered this problem. (Also Vista user the whole time). Spending upwards of 100+ dollars to fix, until recently, a non existent problem would be asking way too much to keep playing a single game (despite how much I happen to enjoy it).

Especially considering that this sort of problem can probably be fixed by running a single regex search-and-replace over the source code.

How would you know that the issue can be patched around so easily, how do you know thats the only thing preventing windows vista compatibility, why even bother supporting an OS that is barely supported elsewhere and has one of the smallest market shares? Why still use the thing even when 7 upgrades were 25 bucks for awhile.

I would appreciate if you could curb your unsubstantiated anger.

A more thorough dependency analysis has revealed that there are a number of references to Windows 7-specific functions in 0.4.2.0. Quoting the wiki page on Requirements:
I had inferred that this means Vista is excluded from the not-working list (else it should read "Vista or below"). I'd like to learn what's the official stance on version compatibility.

On my pc I have got 4 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 8200M G and an Intel Pent. T3200 (2.0 GHz, dual core). So the only issues should be the OS and the GPU.

Neither your CPU nor your GPU are going to get you very far with BeamNG. They both way too old.

Unless this is an AMD problem, it would seem that cpu / gpu are not the culprit since my computer specs easily handle this game.

Or you could read the messages above where the issue has already been attributed to an incompatibility with vista. Seems the game is attempting to do something that Microsoft didn't add until windows 7
