I actually approve this idea. There isn't a need for a player model or anything, just have the camera set itself to a human height, and add the ability to move. I can see the commands being something like using the arrow keys or WASD to walk around, and motions of the mouse to look around. Perhaps a key like shift or spacebar to run?
They did indeed have this in game at some point, but it no longer works and was never officially added (Came with Torque3D, I believe). I agree, it would be cool, but I'm not sure if they want to work on that at the moment.
Or they could add in a system like in My summer car. This would be very useful for the future if they decide to make tow ropes and winches.
I would find that highly appealing. It may improve the quality of this game and make it appealing to other beings who like car mechanics. --- Post updated --- Configurable controls. Personally I would make it feel like Minecraft.
This is a good idea, but once you put a person in the car in a fatal crash, the rating of the game will go up. The devs haven't done this because they want Beamng to be a family-friendly game, and the rating system would simply not allow this game to have that and still be rated E or E10 and up
I am thinking more of an floating camera. It's just an camera tat makes it look like you are a human walking but you actually have no body. This wouldn't get it an age rating as there is no person to begin with right? (EDIT: corrected my English and quoted the guy above.)
They dont have to. Look at SLRR. They have human playermodels and characters but they make it so that the human characters never get hit or die.
I think MotorM4x had a similar feature where you could get out and walk around your vehicle. You were somewhat contained though so you couldn't just go wandering off... you had to stay within a certain proximity of the vehicle.
You kinda already can. You just have to get into free mode with your camera, the controls are in the camera section under options. If you hit F11, and open the editor, you can adjust the speed of it, or if you open the screenshot window, it'll also have speed controls. It shouldn't be that hard to keep a human height while moving around.
True, but using wasd and the mouse would just be fun. It seems like a simple enough thing to implement, but I am probably very wrong
Relative cam is too slow. You could use the free cam then but then again using a cam wouldn't feel real. You would have to constantly manage how high up you cam is and it's not really the same. It would basically feel like controlling a ghost. Then again now that I look back I can't really think of how useful it would be to even have an character like I described earlier in this thread. What would be the point of having one? Possibly more immersion but what else?
How old are you? get off here lol also if you weren't so stupid, you would hit shift+c and navigate the camera. This is a vehicle simulation game not a baby toy like RoR
