Materials not updating when pressing CTRL+R

When dealing with the materials file its a point of frustration, I have been talking about this for some time but no one seems to know the answer.

BeamNG does not update material changes until you close BeamNG and manually delete the cache folder contents. It will update diffuseColors but not diffuseMap, for diffuseMap updates I have to close the game and clear the cache. I know this because as a test I deleted a whole section of materials, saved it and pressed CTRL+R and the vehicle loaded with all materials...

Is there a way to clear the cache without closing the game? If I try to clear it with the game open I get the message that it cannot be deleted because it is in use. Is this going to get fixed? its annoying to have to repeat those steps when editing materials.

Try setting them to blank. Or, if you prefer, vehicles/common/null.dds

 

• FWIW, deleting may not always be the best test.
• What location are you editing out of? (eg the file path)
