But... If only a few automakers introcuced a package like that and then it fizzled out quickly, leaving no impression in the market, why include it in Beam? I might not be properly picking up on this argument, I'm not sure if my comment is super relevant.
will we be getting the rollers as a prop? would be really fun to test various vehicles with them. also, content creators can use them to tune their differentials based on real-world results!
Not sure, it has issues (tire popping) and no mesh, if someone finds time to make a mesh for it, then probably. The tire popping thing seems to be a general issue with tires vs coltri of props, maybe it's fixable. I'd show it as is, but with just the default jbeam viz it's super hard to see anything, not really possible in a video like that...
In a way BeamNG already has such, ETK800 top model comes with open diffs, but you can throw in something better in as an upgrade, it would not be too far fetched to think that in Career mode such could cost bit extra to put into car or then I'm overthinking? So unless I'm mistaken, roller thing is something like this? Side might need bit lowering I guess, but quite simple to make such mesh? Changed sides a bit: Not sure if it is any use, but Layer 3 has roller setup as prop, which may or may not work like a prop, layer 2 has base with modifiers applied. Layer 1 is original model that has no modifiers applied so it is easier to modify it. Of course it needs to be exported as Collada to it's own folder so Beam does materials and also setting up 4 of them with map editor or something, having no idea about jbeamed version it might be whole lot different actually, but there is a model of questionable quality, do what you like with it.
Okay, I don't think West Coast USA is a bad map at all, but I think it needs an update by Dec 25, 2020 because it is starting to age and there are road texture issues even though the only map mod I had installed recently was Los Injurus and I deleted that map at least 30 - 35 hours ago. I had no map mods installed last night and there were still road texture problems. There weren't any "No Texture" issues, but there were painted road stripes missing that I noticed while I was watching KOTH. Anyways, West Coast USA doesn't even look like it's finished yet. I do think that West Coast USA definitely needs a major update by the end of 2020. As far as speculation goes, It is almost the end of November and it doesn't look like the update will release in November. To me, it looks like it will come out in December or January.
Take a look at the devblog. Even though they are doing a major lighting update, do not forget they will do minor fixes also to the other maps, including West Coast USA. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- For a new car idea, another has sprung to mind, why not create a British, right hand drive, super car. Because I don't know whether anybody has noticed, but both the Pigeon and the Miramar are right hand drive, yet the rest of the japanese cars are left. Or, and I know it'd be a tonne of work, make a variant for all cars with a right hand drive option as in the UK we do have foreign, left hand drive brands with right hand drive cockpits. But I think a super car would be pretty sick, like a car modelled off of a Bugatti or a Lamborghini. Something sleek and cheeky. Who can agree?
I do understand that the devs are going to do a minor fix to West Coast USA, but I do think that they should do a major update to the map eventually.
They will, but the map is too new if you get what I mean. Like, they did do an update to make the maps outer barriers look better. They will do this I predict in about 3 updates time.
If you play with the spikestrip mod you'll know why roller is so difficult to make. The spikestrip is an exploit of the physics ingame. It makes the tire node to "stuck" between the coltris in the spike This is also why thin guardrail "eats" car parts upon contact The diagonal ramp AWD test is doable
Okay, you do make a fair point there. The map is quite new. I think it came in 2017, but I could be wrong. I do think the devs should update West Coast USA in 2020 or 2021 though. By the way, the most recent devblog post is from Nov 14, 2019. There has been nothing new yet on the devblog since Nov 14, 2019, but hopefully, the devs will post something new on the devblog soon. There is also nothing new on their Twitter yet as of Nov 27, 2019 as far as I can tell.
About rollers, this is one way to test 4wds: Ice under some blocks, does its work but not perfect. Spoiler + Diagonal test
You have much prettier test platforms, I made thing I have seen in car dealership where they make SUV to have tiny amount of flex, then put most obvious choice of vehicle on it: I think beach sand or mud as a thin layer might work better than ice, but not sure, there would in theory be less sliding backwards. Technically it might be possible to create faux rollers with your idea, just slap fake rollers (static object) on top of the square so it kind of looks to be on rollers. I did use nodegrabber to suspend car from air and then seeing if there is proper actions, then it did look all wrong and it took really a while until my brain registered issue being different diff ratios. Just try to set different diff ratios to front and rear with welded diffs and see how oddly it behaves with minimal wheelspin, welded sides rotate first one, then another. Set diffs to same ratio and welded acts together.
Honestly i can already feel this update being terribly lame, atleast for me. Utah sure sounds interesting and the Crawler will probably add some content, but other than that... meh... continuing with the tradition of a good update, then a bad one, then a good one after. just like windows.
Due to the recent update schedule having much longer spans between updates, I predict that the update will come out in December. I agree with you, remaking existing content is excellent, but it has to be accompanied by completely new content. Also, being the final update of 2019, I'd assume that we might be seeing some form of career mode, as it was stated that we'd be seeing some form in 2019.
Are you guys ignoring the incredible lighting system improvements the devs have been making? That's what I'm most excited for, personally. If it comes in the next update, that is.
I am slightly skeptical about the lighting. It looks better, but I'm worried that it will impact performance. Also, night driving still is like driving in a blackout, which is disappointing.
