Thought I'd make a thread for this, been working on it since the 7th of November and it's at the point where it's good enough to show properly. This originally started off as an SBR4 suspension and engine based open wheeler, not particularly powerful and designed for a basic, affordable feeder series. However once I'd slapped it on an SBR4 ingame I added some mockup aero and it quickly went from a small amount of downforce to enough to take corners at close to 4G's. I then decided to make it a proper Formula 1/Indycar spec car with full custom construction, nothing here will be based on SBR4 components. This might look similar to an F1 car from the outside, especially since I've taken a lot of inspiration from the 2021 car, however it's drivetrain and engine will be quite different, so don't call it an F1 car or I will get mad ;). The wheelbase of the car is basically the same as a Formula 2 car, but a bit wider in track. The car will be unbranded (fictionally one of the team manufacturers would have probably designed and built the base chassis) with different teams and manufacturers having their own engines and aero packages. The formula series this car is (fictionally) designed for is best described as F1 with much less technical restrictions and no consideration given to efficiency. Pure speed, noise and power :D

    Specifications (subject to change):
    4.0L 90° supercharged flat-plane V8, 950HP, rev limit at 11,000RPM
100kW nitrous shot from a 20lb bottle, avaliable at driver's discretion for overtakes/defense, takes total power to 1100HP
6 speed sequential transmission, may be switched to a DCT later
    1.6m track, 3.2m wheelbase, 4.9m total length
5 tyre compounds, soft, medium, hard, wet, intermediate (F1 style)
    Wheels and tyres: 18x12 305/25R18 (front), 18x15 375/25R18 (rear)
High and low downforce aero packages, with high and low drag respectively

Early ingame screenshots from the SBR4 based car:
    screenshot_2019-11-30_17-38-01.png screenshot_2019-12-10_13-45-03.png
Screenshots of the current model with proper proportions:
    upload_2020-1-22_22-23-25.png upload_2020-1-22_22-23-56.png upload_2020-1-22_22-21-44.png

No release date planned, I never stick to them anyway, so any requests on that front will be ignored. Next area to be worked on is the suspension (front has been mocked up for positions but not modelled) and the cockpit. And before you ask, yes this is subsurfed, the actual polycount is still very reasonable and I'm making an effort not to go overboard with extra edge loops and instead making good use of edge crease. Considering the monocoque won't actually deform much (if it does you have a fundimental engineering problem) there shouldn't be any issues on that front, and the other breakable aero parts will probably be slightly lower poly.

I demand that you call it the hirochi SBR1, since it has one seat. /s

but in all seriousness, it looks awesome.
I don't know how you've set it up, but an ESBR powered variant would be an interesting addition.

Won't be a brand specific car, but a formula spec chassis with teams/manufacturer developed engines and aero packages (similar to Formula E/Indycar) as I don't want to make completely different cars for each team :p

As for electric motors, not really a fan of their power delivery (at least how it is ingame currently) and the drivetrain in this will be all designed around the V8 so not really practical, would need to be a completely different setup. I'll update the original post to spell this out a bit more clearly.

Inertia you have just completely outdone yourself yet again :D

As for the engine 4.0L V8 SC that is quite a unique power unit in its own right, I cant wait to see a Supercharger working at 11.000rpm it should be screaming by that point

As for the drive I suspect what an 8/9 speed semi auto gearbox?

Yep, engine will be custom designed for this formula, and a 6 speed sequential (paddle shifted), though not entirely sure if I will go DCT later down the line. Transmissions are yet again something I forgot to add to the original post, what more can I forget at this rate

I like the idea of having a DCT later on but also the power for later models definitely needs a big fat kick it the nuts, I am thinking if you can toss in a "Qualifying" setup with something like the cars not producing like 950bhp race trim but more like 1300 to 1500bhp out of the engine, maybe increase the NOS hit for that but yeah, should make it interesting, you could always toss in a front Electric motor if you really wanted to push it so its selectable AWD like the LMP1-H cars have it, its an idea mind entirely up to you if you wanna make it really wild

1100hp please Porsche 917/30 Spyder had 1580bhp in its max boost setup and that ran I believe 2.7 Bar boost....and allegedly it had two truck turbochargers to do that thats how badass Porsche were in CanAm!

If you get Assetto Corsa and get the Porsche DLC its one of the cars in the DLC and its comical how fun it is to drive with boost, but this is going WAY off topic here :p

do you think it is possible to replace the NOS with a KERS or ERS system like in F1 with the regenerative breaking?

Or even drs to eliminate the need for different downforce setups

Trust me, 1100HP is already plenty of power in the overweight SBR4 chassis, in the final 700-850kg car it will be insanity. I'm already easily running 1:05s laps at hirochi raceway long circuit, so with the extra downforce that is coming and the reduced drag and weight that will easily be sub 1 minute times.
Not too keen on this kinda stuff, would be extra work and weight, plus I'm trying to go for a formula that purposely doesn't care about efficiency. Plus the NOS is a unique concept that I think works well and also will mean that engines that are worn have a chance of blowing up during the race.
I may implement something like DRS, will depend on how fast the cars go, which im expecting is at least 330km/h.

I suggest you keep the seq trans in the mod if decide to change to dct. I believe many like me prefer seq over dct. No need to have it in configs, but in with the mod.

Looking good. This seems to be something i wouldnt mind to have to wait for, no rush

I hope this thing will rewrite the rulebook on terms of speed, as for the aero I know Dummiesman is struggling with a 1994 Indycar project could this car be used to provide any form of help with that since his car has major problems relating to the Aero

I mean what I was saying was that Indycar project thats gone nowhere if there could be anything from this mod that could be used to help with the aero profile of that mod, but you know its just a thought..
