Is Rigs of Rods really from BeamNG.

and what is your BeamNG' role in the demos if buzzfeed.com refers to ogre's soft body physics as "BeamNG?s only real game, the free Rigs of Rods, uses the open-source (and much less visually impressive) Ogre engine ? which shows off the potential of soft body physics nicely. This is how cars really crash and how objects behave ..." -> secondly Notch and EA manager is impressed only with cryengine "Wow. The destruction code nerd in me finds this soft-body physics in Cryengine 3 really, really impressive."

what? BeamNG is made by some of the same people as RoR if that's what you're asking.

Rigs of Rods is a long standing 'stand-alone' title that has been around for a while. Pricorde was the original founder/creator for Rigs of Rods and he created it using the 'Ogre' engine for the graphical aspect of it as well as some of the physics if I'm correct. Rigs of Rods, or 'RoR' for short, started off as a simple physics indie game and has since transformed immensely since the implementation of the 'Soft Body' system. Fast forwarding to today, BeamNG is created by four individuals from the RoR community. Thomas, AKA TDev, is the main man behind RoR today and is also one of the lead programmers for BeamNG. Estema, I'm unsure of who he is exactly but I do know he's a contributor to RoR's open source. Gabester is a vehicle designer/programmer for BeamNG and is well known for his vehicle modifications that were released in recent times. Hutch is the terrain/world designer. He's responsible for the maps and areas you'll be driving on in the initial release. He's from Rigs of Rods as well if I'm correct. Essentially what I'm saying is that BeamNG is designed by the same people who are behind Rigs of Rods but isn't exactly 'from' RoR. BeamNG is it's own company and it's own entity and is going to be based primarily on a commercial setting rather then a independent open source title. Not only this, BeamNG is utilizing the 'Torgue3D' engine where as mentioned previously, RoR utilizes 'Ogre' as it's engine. The designers are the same, the physics idea is the same, but the game itself is different - and far more advanced.

Think of it as the difference between Driver 2 and Driver San Francisco :) Driver 2 was fun and all, but Driver San Francisco takes all the fun aspects of the old Driver games, and combines them with some new game mechanics(objectives to complete and such) and superb graphics, and it's still made by partially the same people :) And BeamNG is optimized for newer computers, so it'll probably run more smoothly.

BeamNG is from the Rigs of Rods. Idea and implementation is the same but beamng's code is more optimized, hopefully bug-free. Author of Rigs of Rods is Pricorde and he is the inventor of realtime Node/Beam engine.

...Saw some points in this thread that are just so wrong.

Pricorde (I think that's his name) started Rigs of Rods. Then The maintenence and coding was mostly done by tdev in the latest version (and ulteq). Gabester modded Rigs of Rods in his free time

BeamNG is totally different, coded by tdev and a few others, and Gabester is the Vehicle Artist. All stock vehicles are created by him.

[It's not "from Rigs of Rods", it's "created by the same developers as Rigs of Rods" or "Created by the Rigs of Rods team"]
