Is a "No Damage" mode possible?

Like... something that somehow disables vehicle crashing and deformation? You could hit a wall for example and it'd do basically nothing to the car.

It sounds stupid, I know, considering the aspect of this game.

I'm assuming it isn't possible because it might break certain things? Like... I'm guessing it'd screw with tire and suspension deformation or something so they won't work properly or something like that?

I dunno. I just have a lot of questions for this game, and it's interesting to kinda learn what is and isn't possible in this game.

I guess the closest you can get is simplified collision physics. Cars don't collide with others nor do they collide with their own components. Seeing as you joined 2015, you may already know that.

I do, yeah. But I was just curious if what I mentioned above was possible in any way where cars don't deform or break or anything. Like... imagine crashing the front into a wall, it just bounces off the wall and drives off still looking pristine as ever.

And with a Burnout Paradise mod in the works, imagine how easier it'd be to do races and stunts and stuff lol. You could actually jump off massive ramps and do barrel rolls 'n' shit without breaking your driveshaft and buckling the car.

But like I said, I was moreso curious as to the downsides of having something like this. Like if it'd break tires and suspension for example, because I'd assume that stuff relies on deformation in order to function as intended, or if there's also just a way the body itself and everything else is solid and indestructible, but tires and suspension aren't. Like, they won't "break" or the tires won't pop or anything like that, but they can still deform and drive properly. Maybe they could just make it so that all deformation nodes are like a million times stronger or something. Again, no idea.

I actually like the idea of having a "no damage" mode. I have several ideas for video projects using BeamNG vehicles, but they require the vehicles can't be damaged. I've messed with various settings inside the json files etc, but nothing every has "no damage." Basically, we're looking for a "Hot Wheels car" option. Haha!

Holy fuck why didn't I think of describing it like that? That's exactly what I was talking about lmao.

the vertex's godmode config just uses really strong beams and nodes, and barely has any deformation cosmetically or mechanically
so that could be a way to strengthen cars, just edit the jbeam files of the body/frame and all the parts to be stronk

i dont think it would be possible, since beamng's car model of nodes/beams produces the realistic damage simply as a byproduct, and turning it off (even just setting node strength for the chassis really high) would probably mess with all kinds of other things

It can still deform and stuff though iirc

BeamNG isn't an arcade game, so no.
What you're requesting is a totally different game. Why not just play that game then? There's plenty arcade racers that does what you're describing.

i think he's referring to it being implementable as a feature or selectable mode

it might be doable with some modding skill, but would be extraneous and still wouldn't feel natural given the game's structure

I honestly hate when people say this.

Imagine if people weren't allowed to give game developers suggestions/feedback because anytime they did they'd tell you to go play something else, smh

    this ain't it
in the real world, imagine every single time someone suggests something, someone says "another thing has it"
    nothing would have versatile features
lemme rephrase that to make sure you get this:
    nothing would be versatile period.
imagine if, in the early days of automobiles, we said, "Hey, they can't make a sedan, another brand has that. Buy from that brand if you want a sedan."
everything would be so unbelievably stale

I understand what you guys mean.
I'm not saying that you cannot suggest anything, I did not mean to phrase it like that at least. Other users are allowed to input their perspective on suggestions too.

What I'm saying is that, I think the idea goes heavily against what BeamNG's goal is. The goal, qouted from their Steam page is "... a realistic, immersive driving game offering near-limitless possibilities. Our soft-body physics engine simulates every component of a vehicle in real time, resulting in realistic, dynamic behavior..."
The suggestion goes so far away from the point of BeamNG that it genuinely makes me curious why you want BeamNG to have such featue.

I also personally think the suggestion is out of scope, which the devs doesn't really want.

    Reading the thread would help.

It would be cooler to make it so the suspension and drivetrain couldn't get damaged in a certain mode.

I mean, it's doable, but why?

It defeats the purpose of the game...

its trying to keep the non-defined free sandbox aspect of the game in terms of driving while removing damage, basically making a non-defined sim
it wouldn't serve much purpose imo, but some people would use it

Again, BeamNG was designed to be an accurate damage sim. Has Forza Motorsport ever had a crazy mode where you can survive 1000ft drops and have nitro blasting all the time while drifting makes you go faster? No. I feel like if this idea was implemented it would defeat the point of the game.

it's not even about the "goal" or "design" of the game, it's just not possible. it's just not how the engine works, on a base level. all you can do is stiffen joint and beam strength until the physics break due to unrealistic materials and/or simplify jbeam structure to reduce possible deformation.
