I doubt diamondback would lie when we knew so little - all we thought we knew was that there might be "some aero changes"...

Hmm, wouldn't PBR break every single mod ever made in the history of BeamNG? Maybe it really is just RTX?

Yeah, I've got to admit that that's what I've been fearing a little. Maybe it could be avoided by having the two systems supported simultaneously, kind of like materials.json and materials.cs? No idea if it's possible to do, or if every single mod will really have to be updated to work with PBR.

Well, I think it would be worse to improve the graphics but only for a small percentage of users who could find or afford an RTX card.

Rtx wouldn't have that effect on the graphics, it's definitely pbr.

If the pigeon gets remastered, I hope it gets a rear sway bar so those of us who actually want to drive it (as opposed to flipping it for youtube likes) can do so

If I can put these wheels on the Wigeon (if they're big enough) then that would be cool. I don't really know how to measure the wheels just from one image so just take my words.

Actually it's an image taken at another angle. Nice to see more of Gridmap V2. I wonder if the old Gridmap stays.

Sometimes you have to do things like this in game development, especially games that have active development with community modding support
There always comes a time where you have to weigh the decision of implementing a new feature at the cost of breaking mod support
But with that said I'm not entirely sure that the way they model and texture things currently would be entirely unfit for a PBR system

    (Don't take this seriously)
If it's gonna be RTX, then I'm gonna get laughed at by the cool kids!

I also think the Pigeon and Wigeon need sequential transmissions for added motorcycle-ness

PBR wont necessarily break every mod. It is possible, and still somewhat supported in some engines like UE4, to allow for spec/gloss materials in a PBR environment. They wont look as good as PBR materials but they would still function. Basically every material in the game currently gets compiled into its own HLSL file (currently most mesh HLSL files have pbr references in them already :p) so an 'old material path' wouldnt be too difficult to impliment

Wouldn't they just add backwards compatibility for old materials? :p

Knowing what I know about Blender (each grid line represents 1 m) it appears the Wigeon conveniently fits within kei dimensions. This is a kei car, no question about it.

Let's talk engines. Ibishu makes a very power-dense, motorcycle-style 600 cc I3 that makes the Pigeon 600 one of the quicker cars in BeamNG. This is the closest thing to a kei engine that is already in the game, used in some configurations of the non-kei Pigeon. To become a kei-eligible engine between 1976 and 1990, it would only need to lose 50 cc. There was no horsepower limit for kei cars at the time and a 50 cc reduction in displacement would not significantly impact performance. There is every reason to believe such an engine could make it into the Wigeon. This would make it an absolute monster, especially considering it appears to be substantially shorter than the current Pigeon and therefore lighter.

There were not many kei sports cars between 1976 and 1990, but what if there were? Stylistically, would the Wigeon be too radical to be taken seriously? I propose it would not. Case in point: the Autozam AZ-1.

Just after the 550 cc era ended, Mazda made this. They actually made this thing. If this isn't radical then I don't know what is. Take the Autozam AZ-1, take it back in time about 15 years, move the engine to the front and cut some excess weight, and you get the Ibishu Wigeon.

then what the heck is this?

I think it's pretty fair to say that the wigeon is going to share most of its parts with the pigeon.
the naming scheme is the same, it's a late 70s/early 80s BOF kei car (with 3-lug wheels), and why would they be making something this close and not remastering the pigeon?

I thought that was a front subframe at first but now I realize the Bond Bug had a ladder frame

    Oops

My question is now: how do the doors work? Is it a canopy like the Bond Bug or does it have proper doors? Or does it have both so as to make it a sort of convertible?

PBR is a hard dependency for Ray tracing, having futuristic tech like rtx, while not everyone could use it would be cool however I don't see it as it would need a modern renderer like dx12 or Vulcan(?)
