I know, but i think that this should be added as official content, 'cause it's awesome and GM is done 50/50 Ford Crown Vic / Mercury Grand Marquis
To put it blatantly: they don't make mods into official content, and the GM isn't just Crown Vic-based (its a blend of similar cars, and yes the Crown Victoria is an inspiration but its not the only one). Even if they did allow mods to be official content, Kueso and his team aren't in the dev team itself so that essentially seals the deal.
It's interesting that people go into game files to try and speculate. Here's this about that: MANY AAA titles have unused assets hidden in game files. A notorious culprit of this is Rockstar. Rockstar not only leaves unused assets in the game files, some if them are even loaded in when the world loads. Stop using unused files as speculation. It's silly at the best and downright inaccurate at the worst.
Not always, parts of the legran remaster were predicted with unused jbeams like the wagon, some of the gavril remasters had unused meshes iirc. TBH it's better speculation that whatever "speculation" (suggestions) we've been seeing on this thread
what you forget is that beamng's development system works differently to that of rockstar. short of the tow truck upfit, I'm not aware that there have ever been any truly unused assets in beamng's files. and even if something goes unused, why should that not be considered? if time and effort have been taken to plan out and make it in the first place, this means such a thing was in the general scope of the developer's plans.
Well I think perhaps this is something they might be working on. (arriving in the next major update) The expansion of WCUSA. (mentioned before somewhere in this thread) "graphical performance was unexpectedly good enough to expand the map, but we had a few setbacks. and of course none of that happened." and "This is a map of the level if all had gone according to planned" I think that it vary well could be this and maybe a minor set of additions. and the month delay could vary likely be those vary same setbacks.
as has been mentioned before, WCUSA already uses a 4096x4096 heightmap to get higher resolution terrain for the sharp elevation changes in the city. implementing 8192 heightmaps is a possibility, but I don't think it's "take an entire update cycle's worth of time" amount of work, it'd more just be a few programmers incrementally optimising it until it's stable. West coast also only recently got its light "revamp", with the highway tunnels and a few extra buildings. considering they've just put all this effort into redirecting border roads back into the map, I don't think they'll be pulling them all out and extending the highways to 4x4km any time soon.
I think we're having two different perspectives on that same video. To me, it sounds like they planned it much bigger like the picture you provided. But for reasons, it wasn't possible so I don't think it'll suddenly just be possible to do it anyway.
It...is the only way to see what the developers are working on that they don't tell us about. Unused files have to be created, meaning it takes time. That is the crux of speculating. Speculating is GUESSING something will happen, not saying it will. Vocabulary: speculation NOUN 1.The forming of a theory or conjecture without firm evidence. ‘there has been widespread speculation that he plans to quit’ 2. Investment in stocks, property, or other ventures in the hope of gain but with the risk of loss. ‘the company's move into property speculation’
I'm not hopeful but bigger maps is the most important thing beamng needs right now, even Italy with it's 16 km2 lost it's mystery rather fast for me... I'm the entirety of beamng there isnt a single real highway (that allows for speeds above 80 kph) and you can reach the opposite end of the map in under 5 minutes on most maps
I do think that a larger WCUSA and Derby Arenas would vary much improve the game. derby arenas has a tile around it the size of Italy. and if Derby Arenas gets Expanded I think it would me called Mid-West USA
Here we go again. Not every map need to be big or huge. Map need to have one major purpose rather trying do everything at once. Derby map is small? Fine. It does what it should do - give you place for derby and banger racing. It have a strict purpose and expanding it would create that "something is not yes" feeling like on WCUSA. It is big but feel rather small. Race track is awesome, city is cool, highways are fine... but because everything is on one map it feel cramped, squished and out of scale. So leave maps that have strict purpose like Hirochi Raceway or ETK Driving Experience (however I would like to see more variety of tests on this map), Derby, Industrial and Cliff. Better option would be having new map than another cramped. Old gridmap also has that straight purpose - small map to do few things where you can reach every place in seconds that new version don't quite have it. PS. Also just because Derby or any other map have land outside of playable area doesn't mean it should be that big. If this would be true we would get long time ago 16x16 map (check out Industrial map). So yeah, not happening.
I wish they condensed the new gridmap a bit. Even doing 200mph getting around is a bit slow. Otherwise I think the driving center could honestly just be removed, it's kind of pointless. I personally don't care about the cliff map since it only has one purpose which you can fulfill on just about every other map.
Yeah, I completely agree with the condensation - it's condensed enough that it takes a while to get around, but not far apart enough that you can hit things at high speeds. I was also looking forward to an all in one vehicle testing map, abolishing ETK Driving Center or at least making it a German map rather than a single purpose map. Maybe we've yet to see the Germany conversion?
GUYS! GUYS! I FOUND AN UNUSED LEAF TEXTURE IN THE FILES! DYNAMIC SEASONS CONFIRMED! See how ridiculous that sounds? Because, yes, there are unused vegetation textures left over from Dry Rock Island, a map that hasn't existed for at least 4 years. Just because you've found it doesn't mean it'll ever a) be used, or b) isn't left over from a deprecated/cancelled project. Hell, there's still shit left over from base Torque3D all over the place, despite Beam being VERY far removed from T3D at this point. I'm not stopping you from "speculating," but you guys sound ridiculous sometimes.
We suggest. Also, in your post history, you agree with at least two update speculations based on unused files...
