el_ferrito updated Somerset, UK with a new update entry: Better views (and more fixed materials) Read the rest of this update entry...
Never thought I'd see the day that my local area made it into a game in some form! Looking good so far, can't wait to see where you take this in the future.
as someone who lives in Somerset this is so cool! So weird playing in a UK based map in Beam, top work!
British Airways Flying Above Somerset and i would want to go to Somerset one day but i live in Milton Keynes that is located near London
You have people flying above the map, flying down roads at 130mph, using combines to roleplay farming...then you have this dude staring at blades of grass.
It was worse in the original version too.. It's basically because of the way BeamNG does it's textures (which I really like) and my slightly lazy approach to that. The dark is from the shadow of the trees in the Google maps satellite image base map. I did try to reduce this, but could do a better job. The grass itself doesn't use this base texture, so is the same whatever the texture beneath. A better map maker would try to match them more, or use different groundcover for the darker areas. Alas... I'm not that guy it seems. Or at least I didn't do it here. A lot of what I did on this map was learning how to use the world editor, so hopefully if I do another map it will look a bit cleaner.
Something bugging me with this map is with how slippery the dirt is, even in a rally car its like driving on ice. Other than that good map!
It's mud mostly rather than dirt (you can tell by how far your tyres sink into it). I did try with dirt but the fields felt a bit too easy to drive on compared to how it would be on Somerset farmland soil, which has usually seen a fair amount of rain... It's a bit thicker mud than I'd like but I didn't know back then how to do custom ground types. I might update it with different mud, but likely will just look into another map. You could edit it yourself and change the ground type for the mud terrain to dirt rather than mud.
Just to clarify, rather than re painting all the ground terrain with dirt, I mean changing the ground type in the mud terrain to dirt (each terrain has a groundtype associated which gives it the physics. Apologies if you got it already, I just thought my comment was ambiguous.
No worries. Apologies, didn't want to patronise, but also didn't want you spending hours with the terrain painter!
This is a very nice map! I really like it. But, would it be possible to create a ''Low End PC version'' with less trees? Thanks.
