Beta Somerset, UK 1.4

Rolling hills and farmland through cider country

  1. el_ferrito

A UK map based in Somerset. I have tried to strike a good balance between realism and fun.

    Somerset_Pre2.png

It is about 5km/5km, with a mix of asphalt and dirt roads. The dirt roads are not massively realistic for the UK, but they are fun so... The asphalt are set up for driving on the left (the AI is a bit nuts at junctions though, so be careful!).

I've also included 4 time trials.

There may be some errors (floating trees, etc.) in there. Feel free to let me know if there are and I will do my best to fix them.

I should also acknowledge DoullPepper, who's roads from Altitude I modified to get these ones to work.

I also used HighDef's Loaded Template Map mod and online tutorials to originally learn most of the techniques.

I have a few tutorials (or at least videos) of my own that I have added to hopefully help others in the future.

Wonderful, I've been waiting for a UK map like this, and I must say I didn't expect one of this quality!

My only critisism would be the slight lack of of buildings, and some invisible give ways that the AI are obeying. if there's any way to make the AI keep some speed through the corners, that would really improve flow

      Cheers for the review.

Unfortunately you can't control the ai speeds (or at least I don't know how to, if anyone else does, please let me know!). It'd be great if you could set the preferred speed, or risk level for a section.

The random giving way is something it seems to do unfortunately. I have tried to fix it, but I think it relates to the fact I have bodged the driving on the left.

I will look to add some more buildings, it is by far the most common criticism...

I love the huge empty farmland areas with mud, and dusty side roads.
AI traffic is very fast on the long straights. Overally the map looks realistic. At some sections my framerate is not the best, but generally running well.

It's empty. Liminal space, if you want. Only sprites on the horizon of view. Maybe, if here was some small towns, this map was appreciate me. We have enough maps with english thematics, for example, mount Coot-Tha, Scottish Highlands. Here, we can see very, very heavy forest. It's not realistic. 2 stars from 5 in cause of very good sprites, and good plan of roads. Thanks for attantion.

Sorry to hear it isn't to your liking.

Just so you know, Mount Coot-Tha is Australia, and the Scottish Highlands are in, well, Scotland...

But it's a fair point, it is quite sparse. I might add some more houses in the future, but it may never happen. For me, I just hope others are able to enjoy the countryside feel to it.

      Cheers

Its a nice countryside map and I love the gravel roads! Although I would love to see more houses and even have a small town to stop at.

Love The Map but The Only Thing That Is Missing Is A Tractor That Is In The Image

It is a dream map to drive; as well as on slow touring around, as well as on driving (too) fast, pushing the limits. Awesome!

It looks even more amazing then it already did, very sweet!

    Two points of critic:

Unfortunately, beauty comes with the price of the map not being really FPS friendly anymore.
And, the map does show up on the navigation in the car(s), but not on the navigation outside the car.

Thanks. The feedback is really helpful. I did some tests on my computer (mid range) and it didn't seem to impact the FPS. I'll see if I can bring the poly count down a bit, especially on the hidden sides.

I'm also trying to sort the navigation, but at the moment it is offset by a whole lot. Cheers
