I bought game on steam like 99% of everyone. You literally try to strawman the argument by bring up a false, irrelevant, statement.

I will make a analogy. The virtual product is NFT and the physical product is art. Obviously everyone will have different opinions on NFT (as well as art), but art is vastly more diverse and that everyone can collectively agree that (good) art is art.
The point is paying for a mod is a relatively new concept much like NFT and everyone is split between them. Meanwhile mods are very diverse and everyone can agree when a mod is a good mod. The reason why a mod creator can not be entitled to profit making off their mod is because the market (layman's term: BeanNG users) is unpredictable. There is no guarantee of making profit, not to mention piracy. Thus being entitled to profit is a bad mindset. They are entitled to get compensated for your work, yes, but as stated from someone else before:

It is up to the mod creator to consider whether it's worth it putting the mod up for money. Yes, it's a bunch of files, so eventually it will end up on shady mod stealing websites. This happens with games too. But a lot of people are (luckily) still honest and buy the mod if they want it.

Maybe 'entitled' is not the right word, but that's a matter of definition. If a creator puts time and effort into a proper, high quality mod then he is worthy of receiving (financial) compensation, i.e. it is up to the mod maker to decide whether he will share his product for free or charge a price for it.

I really don't see how mods being stolen relates to the process of selling one. The creator himself obviously knows too his mod is likely to be stolen. So what? He will still get good sale numbers, because as I said, a lot of people will still buy.

Piracy robs what would otherwise be money sent to the people who created a mod. And yes it affects sales (although with how small of a scale selling a mod is, its rather miniscule) because rather then paying, they just download from somewhere else.

Your main fault here is trying to set a price for something. You don't have the divine truth to say that a mod can or cannot worth more than 1 buck. Everything worths what the buyer thinks it's worth.
So if the dad of some kid thinks buying an internet thing for 20 bucks will make that kid happy or just stop being annoying for the day and he thinks it's worth it. Then it's worth it.

Ooof. This discussion derailed a little bit.

Modders comes and goes. This is just a hobby, a fan-made extension, a side project. There is no guarantee that mod will be always working and always updated. "From fans for fans" - this is true meaning of modding.

Yes, it can take months or years to create a mod, especially a good one. But for me this is not an excuse. If you want earn money then there are two options: donations or "gEt A JOb". Before you get mad at me, let me show you few examples:
    - Counter Strike, started as a free mod, modders were hired by Valve to create most popular FPS ever made.
    - DOTA, stared as a free mod, it basically created a new genre of games with most popular games being DOTA2 and League of Legends.
    - Project Reality, started as a free mod to Battlefield2 in 2005, in 2015 became a free stand-alone game where eventually modders created their own game called Squad.

There are already few paid mods. Let's see, one car for €3.80, another one for €3, dummy for €4 and some roof accessories for €1.50. Hmm, already more than half the price of the game. Nice... Can't wait for more. Not to mention one problem called "currency exchange".

So yeah, keep mods away from consumerism.

Literally nobody is making you pay for anything.

I assume this post is complaining about the Picnic made by Lusas, who not only made over a dozen of free mods, is probably credited in another dozen of other free mods, has made 2 thousand posts with 15 thousand endorsements + 9 Staff endorsements.

Or maybe this post is about Raven made by Aljowen, who made half a dozen free mods, also has well over 1600 messages with 4 thousand endorsement + 10 Staff pick.

Or maybe it's about Meo or GTG Team?

I know who this complain is not going to be directed at: Sterek.
Because Sterek has never made any mods or provided any contribution to the community. In fact Sterek has made 8 posts in 6 years and has no ground to stand on. So they needs to pretend like someone is holding a gun to their head, forcing them to buy a paid version of a mod that also has a free version available for download. But Sterek doesn't want free mods, Sterek wants the benefits of extensive paid mods, without the drawback of having to pay for hundreds if not thousands of hours of high skill labour.

And while I absolutely hate the phrase: "Make your own". In this situation it applies perfectly.

You have reference pictures, you have free version of those mods. Make similar mods from scratch and then post them for free for us all to enjoy. Just remember, from scratch and your own. Oh and make sure to make a thread so we can follow your progress.

    Good luck. :)

    my take on this:
Modders aren't gonna rapid fire paid mods.
Paid mods can be a mini business or a small source of income, but it can't be a real Business. People that make these mods probably have a real life job. People probably made their mods on their job vacation days. Now, it might not make sense, but if you were to sell the 3d model of your car mod, you'd probably rake more profits than if you were to sell it as a car mod. Of course, you could do both. No one is forcing you to make mods, neither is anyone forcing you to stop making mods.
It is Your choice, no one else's.

for the consumers: if you don't like the pricing, don't buy it. It's like walking into Walmart and choosing what product you're gonna buy. You don't scream at the cashier about something in the store being overpriced, you don't leave a 1 star review because their products are priced. That is unless, you're a Karen. Whoever leaks paid mods because "overpriced" needs to be hit with a copyright lawsuit by the author. I know the game can get boring without modding it, but the repository has literally thousands of Free mods, search there instead of harassing modders to get that one mod you'll play for 1 minute.
Free Mods are a privilege, not a Right.
Still, it's understandable to be frustrated when a modder teases a free repository release then makes it off repo and priced(Lucas...). Consumers shouldn't be toyed around.
Quality mods? it's a grey area. mesh rips straight from forza or assetto corsa(not meshslaps) are gonna have quite the copyright issues when money comes into the play. meshslaps however? wouldn't last a single second on the forums.

At the end of the day, the modders decide. consumers should vote with their wallet if they have to. If you don't like it, ignore it. Both sides are right/wrong in their claims, you're allowed to have an opinion on the matter.

I like how nobody ever complained about paid mods before Lucas made one, as if they didn't exist before (but they did). Lucas was known before to have many haters who are trolls and disagree with everything he does just to make him angry, they probably started this whole thing now.

    No, it's nothing personal.

Everybody complained about paid mods whenever a thread talking about it would pop up once in a while - long before Lucas made his mod.
It was always a fun read.

It is an argument that has been going on forever, with people mostly in disapproval (you can see the poll in the second thread Zero poste has a 66% disapproval) so its not suprising most every conversation about them shuts down immediately after backlash

People simply hate on the picnic from LBE because of the 3 following reasons:
-He had said it would be free, and changed it to being paid like a week before release, and then didn't exactly advertise this change well
-He has made a good deal of 'enemies' of sorts from some comments he would make on some meshslap/beginner tier mods
-A lot of people hated how far some of his supporters would go to support him (which is stupid that they care about his supporters) so they go out of their way to not support him and discourage support

That kind of made this a catalyst for paid mod anger, especially given its advertising and prominence.

Remember: back before paid mods where a big issue, we complained about modders having a 'god complex' where some prominent modders would fly a little too close to the sun by critiquing any mod they could find to feel like the most superior modder, it is not as prominent now but it was an issue back when I had first joined. So if you think paying for mods is bad, at least they aren't in every other modders face to tell them they suck... with exceptions

The issue I see with paid mods is honestly copyright, Cherrier was technically a brand introduced as part of BeamNG and I'm not sure where selling a product with Beam's branding sits legally. The Picnic is indeed a quality mod that deserves compensation.

Cherrier is not a brand. It's a fake brand name.

Fictional brands don’t have copyright, they are not trademarked nor established by a real entity, just made up by someone
