So. Teaser, drawn rather than in-game I admit, shows performance side-by-sides on the horizon. Way too different from the Argo thing to be based on the same chassis, but very possibly from the same brand. How many theoretically-in-progress vehicles are we up to now? And also, why the sudden focus on off-roading?
Side by sides are not coming, those are two real ATVs photoshopped in. Something about them is supposed to be a teaser (along with the map itself) but we aren’t sure what.
I was looking at the ‘bellobus’ teaser, and couldn’t help but notice how highpoly it looks. Every surface and curve is super-smooth, I actually can’t see any sharp polygonal edges. Sure, it looks good in photos, but every new vehicle seems to be getting more and more high poly to the point that some are even spiking/not deforming realistically when crashed. I can’t imagine this new van deforming well as it just looks so high-poly. Does anyone else see what I mean?
And the sound is also thrown out of the window! Even the M177 Twin-Turbo V8 sounded great, despite being more muffled and more artificial than the glorious NA M156. Yes, a 2-liter 4-cylinder making something like 670hp is nuts but, in the end of the day, it's still a buzzy 4-cylinder next to I6s (like the M3, the sound of which you can improve to divine levels by fitting equal-length headers), V6s (like the Giulia Quadrifoglio and the RS5) and a glorious 5.0 Lexus V8, in the IS 500. And that's why I don't even consider the C63 in the same company.
Spoiler: Off topic information for ya They're basically all the flat shapes a 3d model is made out of. More usually ends up with a smoother looking mesh, at the cost of performance(and in this game's case, deformability) For example, take the model of Mario from Mario 64: Note how you can see the flat shapes that make up the model. This was done in order to save on performance since the hardware was weak(by today's standards) Now look at Mario's model from Mario Odyssey: Smooth as can be, no jagged edges or anything. Since hardware keeps becoming more and more powerful, we can afford to have so many of these little shapes(polygons) that it is basically unnoticeable. Here's one more graphic showing how it works: As you can see, the more polygons the model has, the more smooth it will look. Anyways, to be on topic I agree. I was excited that we were getting a more boxy vehicle since the last few have had deformation issues, but the mesh could still end up being an issue. Perhaps the fact that this is so high poly means that they are finally implementing the new mesh deformation system? That could also be a reason why there was that qa_unpacked file, as such a major change would probably need to be rigorously tested in numerous different ways than usual.
The teaser tracking post grows once again. At this rate I fear it will soon achieve sentience; the growth will become self sustaining and it will be unstoppable. Will it ponder the meaning of life, or chose to take over the known universe? We can only guess.
That’s what I meant when I said it looked like automation. It’s way to high poly, and I just can’t imagine it crashing well.
If you're talking about the ATVs in yesterday's teaser then they were simply art assets used to demonstrate the concept of offroading on this new map. They do not currently reflect content being worked on / coming to the game for the next or a future update.
They should’ve put the off-road Bastion instead. Well, in my opinion at least. Or maybe the mystery buggy/SBR! Yeah, that would be better. I’ve just had my mind changed by typing.
I believe they could have also done that, but there's not much point in discussing what we would have done when none of us do any of the marketing lol That, and there's no point discussing it much more. Thursday's teaser awaits and we can all forget about this blunder
The teaser could be teasing just the map, or it could be the dirt on the tires. I know that those are just photos, but there are plenty of photos of ATVs with clean tires.
