I wonder in the background. On the left you can see what I assume is the end of the map with the mountains, but on the right it doesn’t seem to end. I really wonder how they’re managing that. Like is it just the render distance not showing mountains really far, how do they end the map? If they’re really copying the original place it can’t be an ocean. I’m really curious.
Maybe I'm still a bit subconsciously disappointed by the map not being set in Australia (which is 100% a "me"-problem) but I'm still not that excited for it. I'm sure it'll win me over once I get to drive there. As far as the Autobricko is concerned, I'm all over it. I don't even know why I like it this much lol
No, it's just... development being complicated. Talking generally (that is, not just content like maps and vehicles, but also software, company resource management, etc etc), any plan you make could be changing at any time. Maybe the complexity of something was underestimated and is now deemed not possible to implement at all, so things get cancelled. Or just more complex but still possible, so things get delayed. Or urgent work is required from people who is already busy working on other stuff. Etc. This is why we've never disclosed update dates for example. You cannot imagine the amount of times we are 99% sure of a date, and then something unexpected comes up and the update gets delayed hours, days, or even entire weeks! Even if we try our best, things still can happen
That's what I've been thinking, as well. And yeah, I don't think the Piccobuggy's related to the others all that much, but it's still the same sort of idea - take a pre-made engine, build a tube frame around it, and then slap some other pre-made parts on the frame. Ah, that makes sense. Good to see more re-using of stuff to easily make more classes of vehicles. As far as I can see, we've got every major class of Baja/Dakar vehicle in the game now (aside from the ATV sector), and with how big the map's looking, we could have some proper KOTH-esque events in the multiplayer mods. The Wendover technically has gone the longest from concept to release, having been teased in 2012 and released in March of 2021 - almost nine years difference. At this point, the changelog's gonna be more of a novel with how much stuff'll be dropping.
Is this unusual, or is this the case for most updates, to have been at least over a year in the making prior to their release?
If it's been years in the making as stenyak said, I'd love to learn more about the development process and what led up to 0.27!
The fact that you can hardly even see the camp/ city on the map when looking at it in Twitter quality shows how huge the map actually is! I had to look at it in the development media thread to actually see it
Oh I know this studying to be a software engineer myself. So basically you planned to release it much earlier but it's only coming out now due to complications, and that's why it took so long. Smart move keeping it secret for all this time then, people would have been disappointed if they knew it was taking so long.
Leeloo, you guys are going to make a post on social media about "one last teaser before the update", the day before the update comes out like 0.25?
uhh, I really feel sorry for Wendrover, some of the cars that came out after him, or before him, are more popular than he is. Unfortunately, this car is given less attention than others
I'd like to think that we can see the little cclues of these kinds of scenarios, like with tire theramal we can already see some code about it in the wheels but turning them to true still had no effect because they need a lot more than a true or false to work and I imagine this for example has been in the works for far too long, you even improved the tire desing and how it behaves in this meantime
Nah it's not really about "keeping it secret", we would LOVE to tell you guys about all the cool stuff we're constantly researching and working on! But rather it's about not misleading anyone with promises of things that we are still not sure enough can actually be finished and delivered. If we were different, we might say "welp we are shipping this no matter what" and deliver half-done features/content, but... you know, we prefer to release only when we believe it's really ready. Each time you slip with your mis-prediction, people will feel disappointed and maybe even mad, even if you had the best of the intentions and are pouring all possible effort into making things happen - such is the passion people can have for a game they love
