Thanks dude! Hopefully it'll be good I hit a wall slightly... at 260km/h... View attachment 42985 View attachment 42988
No real car from after about 1965, with a few exceptions. There are no modern, normal cars with straight pillars. Even a Nissan Cube has curved pillars. I imagine the reason older cars had straight pillars was because flat windows were easier/cheaper to manufacture (including the window tracks/rolling system). When manufacturing technology got better, stylists wanted curves everywhere, and thus curved pillars were born in the 60s. Something interesting I just discovered: the 1961-1963 Lincoln Continental had curved pillars, but then went to a much more upright roof with straight pillars in 1964 (for the better IMO - the roof was too narrow on the '61-'63). And in '66 they went back to curved pillars again. Straight pillars look fine on old cars and military vehicles, that's it. - - - Updated - - - Nope, if it's a 70s car it should definitely have curved pillars, especially if it's a large American car. Straight pillars on ordinary American cars died in the 60s. Here's a '73 Chevelle (very similar to his car). Note the curved pillars. (imported from here)
Also, metal thats holding a shape is more rigid than a large flat sheet. Arches are stronger than beams kinda thing, I'd imagine curved pillars are also present for structural reasons.
"with a few exceptions"... The car he's making could be either 60's or 70's, so it's not necessarily wrong to have straight pillars. Also, even a common car like the 1974 Dodge Monaco barely has curved pillars, almost straight. Same with 75 Nova, only barely curved.
But the car he's making has a narrow roof and looks a hell of a lot like a Chevelle (like the Moonhawk), so it should have curved pillars. With a roof that narrow, you need a lot of curvature or the windows won't be able to roll down into the doors. As for a '75 Nova... I wouldn't call this "barely curved" - it's more curved than most modern cars. (imported from here) '74 Monaco: distinct pillar curvature very similar to modern cars (imported from here) Brand new Mercedes E-Class: barely any more curvature than those 70s cars (imported from here)
I meant this one Gabe: View attachment 43019 View attachment 43022 View attachment 43023 On some pics the pillars of the sedan look way straighter: View attachment 43020 View attachment 43021
I was redesigning the new rear and here are some stuffs that came into my head. What do you guys suggest? The black lines are the rear shape. View attachment 43024 View attachment 43025
i prefer the second one as it looks more likes the front, as the first one makes the back too rounded and small, it does eventually need bumpers though, its looking good at the member however.
I'm not seeing anything that proves your point - those pillars are very obviously curved and just as curved as a modern car. If you can't see the curvature then I don't know what to say.
Urgh, whatever dude. I never said I don't see the curvature, don't put words in my mouth. Your point that it should have curved pillars for it's era, or to roll the windows down is fair enough, but I'm certainly not blind. Also, I don't see any resemblance between his car and a Chevelle. Maybe the grille, but other than that, no. Nowhere near curved enough. Much more like... Well, a Dodge Monaco with a higher front end. This argument is over.
The overall shape and proportions are identical to a 70s Colonnade Chevelle sedan. Ignore the fine details; it's clearly a mid-70s intermediate American sedan. The narrowness of the roof seals it as being very similar to a Chevelle. The way it is now with the straight pillars, the windows would roll down about 4 inches before sticking through the outside of the door. If he curved the pillars, then it would be realistic and believable.
We have one... View attachment 43028 In other news, I increased the grip on my Trueno's tyres, which made it handle better. Then I proceeded to improve the suspension, which ruined it again :/ View attachment 43030 I might add panels soon, once I fix some thingies.
They were removed because they were just off-topic trolling. If your post in this thread isn't either something you're working on, constructive criticism for someone else's work, or a reasonably relevant discussion, it will be deleted. An argument was created out of nothing and dkutch and Dennis-W decided to make useless troll posts that contributed nothing to the thread or discussion.
I understand, but in my opinion dennis-w has a little bit of point One question also, playing a pirated Beamng.Drive is illegal? Just asking.
It's pretty obvious, but yes. Considering you're talking to one of the developers on the game's official forum, pirating said game isn't going to be taken lightly.
