No real car from after about 1965, with a few exceptions. There are no modern, normal cars with straight pillars. Even a Nissan Cube has curved pillars. I imagine the reason older cars had straight pillars was because flat windows were easier/cheaper to manufacture (including the window tracks/rolling system). When manufacturing technology got better, stylists wanted curves everywhere, and thus curved pillars were born in the 60s.

Something interesting I just discovered: the 1961-1963 Lincoln Continental had curved pillars, but then went to a much more upright roof with straight pillars in 1964 (for the better IMO - the roof was too narrow on the '61-'63). And in '66 they went back to curved pillars again. Straight pillars look fine on old cars and military vehicles, that's it.

Nope, if it's a 70s car it should definitely have curved pillars, especially if it's a large American car. Straight pillars on ordinary American cars died in the 60s.

Here's a '73 Chevelle (very similar to his car). Note the curved pillars.

But the car he's making has a narrow roof and looks a hell of a lot like a Chevelle (like the Moonhawk), so it should have curved pillars. With a roof that narrow, you need a lot of curvature or the windows won't be able to roll down into the doors.

As for a '75 Nova... I wouldn't call this "barely curved" - it's more curved than most modern cars.

I'm not seeing anything that proves your point - those pillars are very obviously curved and just as curved as a modern car. If you can't see the curvature then I don't know what to say.

 

The overall shape and proportions are identical to a 70s Colonnade Chevelle sedan. Ignore the fine details; it's clearly a mid-70s intermediate American sedan. The narrowness of the roof seals it as being very similar to a Chevelle. The way it is now with the straight pillars, the windows would roll down about 4 inches before sticking through the outside of the door. If he curved the pillars, then it would be realistic and believable.

An argument was created out of nothing and dkutch and Dennis-W decided to make useless troll posts that contributed nothing to the thread or discussion.
